It's hard to believe that a refinished 4001 with so many incorrect parts sold for $1600! Has the market changed that much in the last few months?

No, the guy spent almost twice what he should have. Check http://www.guitarbase.com and see what I mean.

Do you mean this one with buckle rash for $1650?

The one on gbase has full width inlays and is original, whereas the one on ebay has a late model neck inlays and has been modified. I saw that bass at the Dallas show last weekend, it didn't look all that bad, however they did have a '72 with crushed pearl inlays for a mere $1800, and a black-block inlayed '72 Jazz bass.

Thank you for the heads up. It sure would have been nice for one of you experts to post the fishy stuff about this bass BEFORE the auction ended, but oh well. I have disputed the Paypal charge and am refusing to buy the bass - no doubt it will lead to my first eBay negative, but I can live with that as opposed to paying $1600 for this bass.
By the way, I'm not saying the seller is a bit on the shady side, but when I sent him an email asking for shipping charges on the bass he offered my a fake Rolex for $50!!!! YIKES!
