"Whitestar" and "Redstar" are not the 'correct' names for the Tuxedo and Redneck bass guitars ... ImageImage

I have a question - the fretboards got relatively darker in 1968 from the previous years. Almost a deep mocha compared to the medium brown of previous years. Anyone know the types of Rosewoods sourced from one year to the next?

Thanks for that, Richard - that is indeed a lovely instrument. I now wonder if there were any maple-necked ones other than bass.

Steve, not true for basses. The 64 bass boards are darker with some using Brazilian Rosewood. They actually get lighter around 67/68.

Thanks, Ken. I should have realised - I was keeping an eye on a 650D on Aussie eBay. Even if I had six eyes I'd still be blind!! Image

I think there are subtle variations in the color of the rosewood used. My '78 4001 has a darker colored fingerboard than my '79 4001.

It's been relisted, Ken, and I've already been in touch with the seller. I'll start bidding when it gets to crunch time!!
