Rock doesn't diminish Blues by borrowing from it, in the same way that 'Penny Lane' didn't diminish Bach...

Guys, my aplogies, I was suggesting nor implying that Cream were a blues band, what I was saying is there's a wide range of interpretation of many Blues songs.

I cited Willie Dixon as the original composer for information only, and to again illustrate the range of interpertation you can find. Muddy Water's version of You need love is one of my favourites.

A lot of older Blues songs have been exploited by big name acts with no reference or acknowledgement to the original artist.

Yes, it seems to be becoming "fashionable" these days to be a Blues player. There again, things like Sattelite Radio have expanded the audience and the age range.

Alright im just a youngster (16) and dont know much about blues. But what i have heard i liked and really wana get into if more. So i figured while you guys are on the topic id ask about some good blues bands. Hope im not interupting.

I'm sure the other guys can add to the list as well.

If you've access to XM radio, go to channel 74, and you'll hear a wide range of Blues, and also get artist and album names.

Big Blues bands now are Jimmy Thackery, Etta James, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Jony Lang, Wayne Shepherd to name a few. I also like Gary Moore, from Ireland I believe.

I have also found that anyone with an Otis in their name is also VERY good! Doesn't seem to matter if it's first, last, or middle!

Yeah i checked out that digital channel. It was okay. I checked out some BB King. Grabed a cd and it was great. Sucks tho cause my closest music store is FYE. Horrible.... I hate that place. The only good one is out of the way and i cant drive yet. X.x

I opened for Kenny Wayne Shepard about 5 years ago, he used three Fender Twins behind a plexiglass shield so he wouldn't kill everyone in the audience.

Those little Fenders are killers, my guitarist also plays harp, so he has a sliver face Princeton, and the Twin, both have tons of power for what he does, and it's rare for him to mike up. I suspect Fender was very conservative on the power specs for these.

Twins are are rated at 85 watts, that's a lot for a guitar or a harp.

Charly...Clarence Gatemouth Brown is one of my favorite live performers of any genre...I've seen him several times and he and his band are superb. One thing I really like is that his band members are all musical monsters, and not one of them is a 'pretty' boy (not that there's anything wrong with that)...it's always cool to see a group of players that got where they are by playing rather than just having teen appeal...

Your 'Otis' contention is right on...even Mayberry's Otis Campbell meets my criteria for a great Blues man...
