I would be interested from others here, how they rate these version of Do You Love Me.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Thans Peter, that was fun...
I don't like the spoken intos...but the Contour's into is more convincing than Brian Poole or Faron's.

Throughout the song, Farons' vocal phrasing / pronunciation is too precise for this type of song and and I don't care for the track's added touches (bow, bow, bow...etc)

The Brian Poole vocals are better, but the rythym guitar gets too repetitive, and I don't like the way they ended.

The Contours' version is very good, but...

I like the rawness of DC5's version best, probably due to the raw strength of the lead vocals...This version captures the mood best... Anyone know how Mike Smith is doing?

1. Dave Clark 5
2. Contours
3. Brian Poole & The Tremeloes
4. Faron's Flamingos (hope his health improives)

That's plain downright sad... 2 yrs. and not much improvement.
I'd seen him play 'Because' on the Letterman show just before the accident.

Great track Tom one of my all time DC5 favourites but never could understand why here in UK it was only "B" side. Mike was the voice of the DC5, I loved his voice especially on ballads,Till the Right One Comes Along is such a simple melody but great performance.

Wasn't 'Can't You See She's Mine' given the A side? I read where Clark insisted 'Because' be deemed the A side in America, although Epic was opposed to it.

Anyone know why the Dave Clark 5 were never officially released on CD...there are bootlegs and an out of print compilation...but their stuff isn't commercially available on CD in the US.

I started thinking of another DC5 cover, I Like It Like That. The old Chris Kenner tune. It did pretty well here in the US in '65 and I would guess well in the UK. I really had forgotten how well the DC5 did, and how many cuts they released in a short span.

Really....I think it hit Top 10 here in '65. Hard to explain that one.

From what I've read, Dave Clark's a smart businessman within the music industry in England...so it's interesting that he's resisted the opportunity to re-master & release the catalog commercially on CD.

Does he own the rights to these songs? Who wrote their 'hits'. Legal problems within the band?
They could release a strong retrospective CD and I'm sure Mike Smith could use the royalties.

Kenner was a New Orleans R&B guy, had a group called the Contours, Allen Toussiant(sp)played with him. Toussiant went on to do a lot of horn arrangements for name bands in the '60s. Can't understand why the song wasn't released in the UK.

Tom, I spoke with a guy here who deals heavily in rare records and CDs and only a few weeks ago we were talking about the DC5 and why there were no CD releases. This guy knows his stuff but had no explanation as to why the DC5 wasn't available on CD. I would have to agree with Roy, it's gotta be some deal with Clark. I mean they're missing out on some lost revenue for sure.

Related story. Fogerty of CCR did have major problems with the rights to his song and was in a long battle with Fantasy records over it...it was so bad he for the longest didn't perform any CCR tunes.
