If you knew the nicks and dings on a guitar were put there by Jimi, why would you 'black them out' with a pen?

If this guy makes a dime off this thing, I'm putting my John Bonham drum sticks up for sale (which I've had shaved down and revarnished)...

Point well taken Dane. Should one be concerned about the value of Jimi's guitar, I can't imagine why anyone would take such an instrument and refinish it.

Sorry Paul, I was just kidding about the sticks...although I do have a friend who has a set of strings taken off of one of Kurt Cobain's guitars....

He has wisely avoided boiling them to preserve their 'intrinsic value'...

Remember that thread a while back, about the guy on Ebay who was selling those broken guitar necks that were supposed to be haunted by the ghost of Jimi Hendrix? I wonder if this is the same guy. I don't know where these people get their drugs from, but I bet it isn't from their local pharmacy.

Dane... what's with boiling guitar strings? Is that supposed to restore them in some way?.....
(or is there a joke in there that I'm just too dense to get?)

Some people boil their strings to sort of "Renew" the strings. It gets most of the oily crud off of them from the natural oils and dirt from your fingers. Supposedly this makes them sound brand new again, but after they have been stretched and used, they really don't sound all that brand new.

Okay, ya got me...I don't know of anyone boiling guitar strings, but it's meant in the case of roundwound bass strings to remove dirt/grease, etc., which will 'brighten' the sound back up and extend the playing life of the strings (by a bit)...

The joke in there has to do with the potential value of celebrity finger soil and the subsequent need to preserve it...don't worry, I'm just too dense to get it, too...

The boiling strings thing seems to have started out in the UK, forom everything I've read. They were and are a good deal more frugal than us wasteful Yanks.
