Building A Neck Thru Body Guitar

Howard, Hudson Purpleburst is the custom purple provided Mark Hudson (Hudson Bros. fame) on his Ric. Mark is a songwriter/producer who works regularly with Ringo and has done quite a bit of other work with Aerosmith, Ozzy and others. I went to high school with the brothers and their folks live 3 houses over from me. Mark's brother Bill was married to Goldie Hawn and then later to Cindi Williams. The brothers had a summer replacement show for Sonny and Cher in the 70's.
Ron, Unfortunately, the '59 autumnglo Capri does not belong to me! Damn! I tried to type in a description explaining the ownership but I guess it was too long and it deleted the description before it posted. It belongs to Graham Griffith. I believe he is a fellow forumite. I hope he doesn't mind me posting it and us oogling over it! He posted that pic once and I just had to save it as it was one of the coolest refins I've ever come across. I'll try and post another here.

Looks like it's gonna be Autumnglo. This will be the best finish to do,that way you will be able to see the steps involved in doing a multi-color guitar finish. This is one of my favorites colors to shoot since in requires 3 different steps and is very challenging. I will start this weekend, so by the 1st part of next week we should see some color. Thanks Dale
Sad the guitar is not yours Ron, as I just knew you'd be keen to sell it to me, cos no one else is listening eh!!!!
Yes I know Howard - "you're Dreamin" (to quote a line from a well known movie here in Oz), but would be nice to know you we first in line for change!
Looking forward to your posting Dale and with that chequered binding it'll look superb I'm sure!

Life wasn't meant to be easy
I can't wait to see it Dale. Autumnglo is a fitting colour for this fine instrument.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Dale, without getting ahead of your project, what are the 3 color steps for Autumnglo? Are you refering to three separate colors which go into the blend of it? I'm totally ignorant on this and I'm just curious. I love the color, always have.

The final hand sanding of the neck before the body wings are glued on. Starting with a hard Maple block and 100 grit sand paper, work out all the high spots left from the hand shaping. Work thru the 100, 150, and 220 grit paper till it's flat and ready for the body. These are glued on using bar clamps and pieces of Alder that have been cut to fit the contour of the body. Use enough glue so that it seeps out from the glue joint. Wipe off the excess with cotton rag and water. Let dry over night then it will be ready for the final sanding before C.V. sealer coat is sprayed on.
