Mr. Tambourine Man
A bit of a sidebar-I have always envied and respected bass players for being able to do just that-play one thing and sing another. It's a talent that is under-appreciated, especially by people who don't play anything. I have many tunes I play that have become so automatic that I don't even think about what the fingers are doing-ye olde "finger memory." Is that the point that bass players have to get with every song (i.e. when they're singing)? Or is it just a particular musical skill-like drummers who can have four limbs doing four entirely different things.

I gotta have the bass part down, where I don't have to think about it so I can be sure to get the lyrics right. Playing AND singing McCartney's parts can be a ***** sometimes, but you gotta get the words right 'cause everyone in the audience knows them and is singing along.

holy cow.... I just listened to William Shatner's version of 'Mr Tambourine Man' and I think it will take a few months to get the nasty smell out of my nose. Beyond comprehension.
The real question, of course, is whether Shatner was trying to do a good song or whether its all just a comedy put-on. I guess we'll never know, but either way you slice it, that rendition is the most gawd-awful thing I've ever heard.
(my apologies to Ronn for posting Shatners mug so close to his fine picture)

HAAAAAAAAA... oh my, now I've been subjected to two Shatner covers. This has to stop!!
His version of LSD is on a par with Tambourine man but I think I'll have to rate his Dylan cover over his Beatles cover in the scale of absolute horribleness.
What was that dude thinking???
