Thanks again, guys. I put 'dark side' in the thread title because to me, bass is the 'dark side'. Mysterious, often big-framed hunks of meat twiddling their basses like they were mandolins!! Broody loners who love nothing more than rattlin' the springs in the snares and feeling the masses of air those huge 4 x 10 or 4 x 12 cabinets push out slappin' against the back of their thighs - better than a Swedish massage!!
Then there are guys like Jeff Scott. Finely tuned greyhounds whose stature is simply a disguise, hiding the beast within. Quietly spoken intellectuals who go ape s**t on stage! Faster than a speeding bullet but much more dangerous!
Then there are morons like me who write this twaddle!!

Congratulatons Howard. I suspect, given your preference for new instruments, that this is a recent model? Am I correct?
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I get it, poetic license huh? I hate to disillusion you Howard but a 4x10 is not a big cab by bass standards at least for those of us who play with a lot of bottom. They're very common in fact. I've done big rooms using two 8x10 SVT cabs, now those are big cabs and shake the whole room not just the back of your thighs. But the old front loaded horn double 15" cabs, Sunns, Acoustics, and V4-B's etc., now those things moved a lot of air, they were virtually inaudible onstage especially the Sunns, that didn't help either you had to be about 20-30 ft out on front of them to get the teeth vibrating full sonic assault.
Yeah the early SVT heads had a warning too, something about dangerous SPL'S. That one's not that dark, I meant around the edge, I had a 98 fireglo that looked almost black at the edges and did not gradually change like those above did especially like Howards which is nice and gradual, it's almost pink, very pretty.
I'll try and post some better pics of the body on the weekend, Bob.
BTW, I took it back to the dealer last night - massive fret buzz. The neck had gone concave (or is it convex) overnight. Obviously the sudden changes in temperature - warm shop to cold car to warm house to cold car - knocked it completely out of whack!! I'm not prepared to mess about with them 'truss rod' thingys on a Rick yet.
