Complimentary 4005 for Pauly?

Post by eggman »

Howdy,

According to what I've read, Paul McCartney likes his Hoefner Bass because it's light. We know according to his own statements that he likes Basses which have been given to him free (and who wouldn't?!).
With these facts in mind, do you think it would make sense for Mr. Hall to visit Pauly in England to present him with a free 4005 LH Bass? Rickenbacker's initial investment would be minimal compared to the potential upside of Pauly using a 4005 Rickenbacker Bass on his upcoming tour. My two cents. What do ya'll think?

they haven't made a 4005 bass for 30 years ... I believe he did get a 4004 as a gift from Rickenbacker ...

I think Squire got one too ...

Ha! Didn't know that, Jeff. Ric is not going to make another 4005, in my opinion....and I'm a 4005 owner!

JH left the door open a while ago. I don't think anyone will ever pry that Hofner out of his hands now at least live, it's too tied to his image.

He's so known for Hofner, and he knows it, that it'll never change forever. You're right, Chris!

Paul isn't a very big guy and I imagine that the 4005 would look huge on him...when I got mine I was a bit surprised at how massive the body actually is...but I'm 6' and it wears well on me...my Hofner 5000/1 looks like a toy if I stand and play it and of course Paul's 5001 looks perfectly in proportion for him.

The Hofner was made for him, for sure!

Brian! I'm off to the beaches in LA for the weekend. Can't deal with the 113 degrees here!!!
My best to you and your family!

I hope Paul doesn't get a 4005!!!

Any gilmer of hope I had of getting one would vanish as they'd shoot up in Price even more!!!
Tell me does it feel the same when you've set upon a change but your heart's in the old times?

He said himself that people like to see him with it because they associate him with it " like Charlie Chaplin and his cane".
