Why GC won;t get my business

Post by wormdiet »

So I am in the hunt for a particular sony Minidisc player to record myself in various "Field Locations" and for an upcoming music workshop. I call up the nearest GC. Here's how the conversation went.

(me)
"Do you have item # ______,"

(Dude)
*pause*

(Me)
"a Sony minidisc player ?"

(Dude)
"No we don't carry those. Actually, they aren;t even in production anymore. Sorry."

(Me)
"In fact they are in production! This is the fourth time I have called a Guitar Center and gotten bad information. You would do well to know your own product lines. I won't be shopping here again. Have a nice day."

(Dude)
*pause*

Why even bother calling up GC if you already know they suck? By all means, shop somewhere else!!!Image

I haven't been to any of the locals here for at least a year and the for the past few years everytime I went in it was a waste of time. they just sell high volume junk for the most part now, if it's hot they'll keep if it's not adios. Not a good way to keep a business going. they're heading for a big fall.

I have never been to, or even seen a GC (haven't worked their way to the UK yet, but I have heard a rumour that they are thinking of it), but you've only got to look at their ebay ads to see that they haven't got a clue!
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

They suck in plain English. They pretty much have a monopoly here in some cities and drive the little guys out of business then rob everyone with high prices.

I usually get a decent deal on whatever I buy at GC. They seem to have it in the store as well. Not so with SA. Just picked up a SKB case from GC. SA was out of them. SA waits 'til they run out of something before reordering. That's happened a few times with me so now I go to GC first.

And does your new SKB smell a bit like a Rickenbacker guitar?

The case smells exactly like my RIC case/guitar. I have been working with one particular sales person the past few weeks and have educated him on the finish (conversion varnish) that RIC uses on their guitars.

that means they sold some sucker a new Ric a few years ago without a case as was their policy. They really sucked, robbers.

Actually the case I purchased wasn't for a RIC. It's smaller than my 330. Got it for $85 and some change.

I kinda like my local GC. Think "counterpunch," fellas--use what they don't know to your advantage instead of letting it frustrate you.

If you're patient, you can get some decent prices when dealing with ignorant people. If they've got something nice, show 'em a bid and when they say, "I don't think we can go that low." just say "OK, that's my price; call me when you want to sell it." Wait a couple of weeks (or months, depends on the item and how long it's been in stock), and you'd be surprised how often they want to deal. It also makes sense to get on friendly terms with the manager.

That's my 2c

So, if I say I want to buy a certain guitar, and tell the salesperson I wish to only spend $5.00, if it's still there 6 months from now they will sell it to me for $5.00?
