No,I didn't take a photo.Mike's comments under the photo related to a banter he was having with Chris Curtis with Chris saying he was tired of girls mistaking him for Mike and Mike more or less saying he had the same problem being mistaken for Chris.I suppose there was a slight similarity,think it was something to do with the hair!

Has anyone heard the Iron Door Sessions. I would be very interested in your comments.

Amazon.uk has has them available but I have to wait to get my copy in the States at amazon.com

Knock knock,
In the recent issue of RECORD COLLECTOR (No. 272,
April 2002, with Dylan on the front cover), there's a double page on the Iron Door Searchers CD. The reporter (Peter Doggett) is using McNally as his prime source. McNally tells that the only surviving copy from these sessions has been kept by Tony Jackson. So it is probably Tony we have to thank for these historical document being made available to the public.
In the same issue, there's a review of the Swedish Radio CD (Alan Clayson):
"If your appetite was whetted by last summer's reissue of the Searcher's five PYE LP's, then you can make an absolute pig of yourself with this."

It is possible that Tony has the only surviving copy pf the session, but I have the first seven tracks for about ten years now. I was rather glad to see that the official release has 4 tracks more.

I would be most interested in someone conducting a detailed interview of the circumstances surrounding the Iron Door recordings that set the stage for The Searchers' stardom. Let's hope that Tony, John, Mike or Chris give us their view of this historic event.

Tony no longer has his copy of the acetate. He sold it to the head of TROJAN Records which was how it became available for this release.

Tim: I am amazed that this reel to reel tape stood up as well as it did over time. Also, the quality of the recording is remarkable when one considers that it was done with the minimum of equipment.

The new CD was mastered from the acetate disc which had hardly been played over the years. I wonder where the original tape is (if it still exists).

Thanks Tim. This certainly makes more sense. You raise another question to be answered. Where is the original tape? I am betting that it is brittle and close to dust.

If the tape has been stored properly it is probably still O.K. The original PYE master tapes are still in very good condition.
