someday I may regret selling my 1968 4001 ... but I bought it for $150 in '73 and sold it for $6500 in 2004 ... and I got to play it for 30 years ... I really can't complain about that too much ...

Nice one Jeff!

Apart from maybe stock in Apple Computers (please - no PC flames, or corrections over when Apple floated), what else has appreciated to the tune of 4300+%??

Not Rick related, but imbicilical nonetheless:

Back in 1975 I sold my '69 Gibson ES-335 with trapeze tailpiece for $150 so I could -- now get this -- have money to take a vacation with my girlfriend! Those axes are worth over $3k now...and I didn't even marry the girl!! I've also let go a '72 Tele and a '76 Les Paul Custom too embarrassingly cheap to mention.

On the smarter side, last year I bought a 1968 Gibson SG Standard in Exc+ condition for $500 (it was in someone's closet since 1975). I saw the same year/model at the Philly guitar show in various conditions with asking prices between $3,500 - $5,500.

I guess what goes around, comes around.

I hope so...

AWARD to KEN: For the first time the word "imbicilical" has been used in this Forum!

Ken, did you know that your surname means "dumpling" in Polish?

I graciously accept that award, Paul!

Oh yeah...I grew up eating my granny's homemade potato pierogies. "Mrs. T's" got nuthin' on me!

Late one friday nite in Feb of 2004 while entertaining some guests, I excused myself to surf ebay! Came across Dick Dubois' '59 Ric 315 (converted to a 325) with a BIN of $6000!! I nervously tried to decide whether to push the button or go back to my guests. Well, I made the wrong decision and the bidding began. Ultimately, David McLaughlin was the lucky winner of the auction at $15,600! The seller couldn't believe his stoke of luck and I'm still kicking myself.

I think TBlair looked at that one too Ron, before the first bid was placed. One happy seller though!

Dave, ouch, you had the S/G 5 banger. That is a very cool bass. Wonder where that is today.

Scott...nothing like refinning one of the rarest custom colours of the 60's.

Like they always say...Seemed a good idea at the time.....

Instead of doing a BIN on the 315, Tony just placed a bid and the BIN went away....I saw it just minutes after that.

It is a great guitar, David was like a kid on Christmas Day when it showed up. I was too for that matter, LOL...

Yeah! What WAS I thinking? I don't even remember what I sold/traded this perfect condition 1962 625 for. Not even a scratch on it!

Talking about dumb trades huh? well get this.... a few years back,my dad purchased a Ric 360-6 string, jetglo....friggin amazing right? well being the person that dad is, he decided to trade it evenly for an Epiphone casino...now you're probably thinking it was the John Lennon limited edition or at least the Elite series, right?...wrong! it was just a standard casino...he regrets it everyday, even after he got another Ric(660-12 fireglo)....If i knew then what i know about guitars now....I swear i would've shot him!!!

Patrick,

Trading an Epiphone Casino for a new 360 straight up would appear to be a mistake: The Casino is worth more! I had one. Made in Kalamazoo in 1963 at the Gibson factory. Swapped it for an old Gibson ES-335.
Those old Epiphone Casinos are worth alot, though they don't sustain well. Keef used one for "Git Awf Mah Cloud". Of course the Beatles used 'em as we all know. Perhaps you were referring to a recent made in Korea Epiphone?

Larry,

It was not a vintage casino...this trade took place in 1999...i think...it was a brand new casino...you could just buy one for about 750 as compared to the 360 at around 1100-1300...
