What's it worth? 76 Burg

A local guy is selling a 76 Burgundyglo that has spent the last 15 years or so under his bed, nice condition, straight neck with medium gauge strings (I looked under the hood and it seems that the treble-side truss rod was tightened and the bass-side truss rod one was not), still has the cap, missing mute and handrest, rusted pickguard screws were replaced with incorrect ones. What do you say? what is it worth? Thanks!

With the prices lately I would say a little more especially being Burgandy.

If I was in the market for one,

I would pay $950.00 to $1050.00 (based on the way you described it).

BG is somewhat rare..

Thanks guys. When I first called him he said he wanted $1,500 but I'm quite sure I can get it for $1,000. I made it clear that this is the highest I will go, and that I'd have to take a closer look at the truss rods before I make a decision.

BTW, being in Israel, if I were to buy a $1,000 bass on eBay from a US seller, by the time it gets here, with $250 shipping, fees and 17% VAT, the total would be at least $1,500, probably more.

Hi Ilan,

I’ve just got in from a recording sesh with my band. I was exclusively playing my ‘new’ ’77 Burg 4001. I think this could become my favourite recording Ric, sounds really fat, bit like an old Fender but with that Ric top end menace…. nice.

I got mine on Ebay for $950.00, paid $120 postage from the US and then another $260 VAT and import tax. If you can get it for 1K in Israel that would be a good deal IMHO.

I came back from recording in San Diego just a few weeks ago and used a 1973 BG (toaster but no full inlays) for some of the tracks - that bass was singing! The BG looks sooo cool on a bass.

Bob, I think you got a good price baring in mind the amount it would have cost you had you bought one in the UK - I still can not believe my eyes when I see prices of Rics (and others...) in the UK.

Oh...yes, Ilan gets all the good deals in Israel

The thing is, I still don't have an Azureglo, and I just know that the moment I spend my GAS money on the BG, Azureglos will immediately start popping up on eBay and I will be kicking myself. Decisions, decisions.

I missed a Feb 73 A/G just last week. This was with full MOP inlays/CB and OHSC and the original owner was selling for $900....

It had been fitted with badass but he still had the original bridge. I told him I would match any deal, but a guy drove 4 hours and waved $1150 under his nose and as he needed the cash he accepted.

They are out there....

Ilan,

Get the Burg! (if the price is right) I am lucky enough to have both a Burg and an Azureglo. They are both regularly played, and especially the Burg, are in good condition. I would hate to part with either, but if pushed I would let the AG go, it’s pretty but not quite as pretty as the Burg.

Hell, even my better half, Debs, got a bit misty eyed when she first saw the Burg. If you are lucky enough to encounter an AG in the near future is there any way you could afford that as well?

To raise money for a house purchase I’m just about to sell my Fender J and my Musicman Stingray, I’m not saying I feel comfortable about it, but when I recently tried to sell my V63 (prototype type early model sort of thing) I genuinely started loosing sleep. Crazy I know but there is just something about Rickenbackers that get through to my soul.

I think it is the only bass that truly allows the instrument to feel part of me when in full flow, that to me transcends monetary value.
