I'm glad I found this thread as I'm currently doing the same thing as Bill in my basement and my situation is similar. I ran down stairs to snap a few pics (see below). I've been researching this for a while and I'll be using staggered 2x3 studs and threading illbruck PROSPEC barrier between them. It's flexible and is supposed to have the same sound blocking characteristics as lead. Very heavy too - I think about 6 pounds per square foot and a roll of it weighs about 300 pounds.
