Howdy,

What with the wife visiting her family overseas and me on Summer vacation, things get a little..dull around here. (our Airedale Terrier is a great companion, though!)
Tonight I played my only Rickenbacker: a JG 620/12. I had a BALL singing old 60's standards to myself and our pet Airedale through my Fender Super 112 (great clean tone; next best thing to a Twin for a 12-string). Heck, before I knew it, some 90 minutes had passed!
Liza (the Airedale Terrier who thinks she's Linda Ronstadt) howled along with "What You're Doing" as I sang and played. It was a riot. I love my Rickenbacker!

Howdy back, Larry.

I spend a fair bit of time on my own (no dogs, no cats) and without casting myself as a loner, I often play with myself (no filth, guys!!) until the early hours of the morning and it can be a very cathartic thing!!

If I'm lucky enough to have my lovely lady with me, I can serenade her. Mind you, I can't sing for nuts but she appreciates the effort. If she's in a cool mood she sings to my playing. Maria's blessed with a fantastic voice with an amazing range but typically, thinks she's very ordinary.

If she's not there, at least the stuffed animals don't complain!

Mellow times, Larry - music is the salvation of many souls. Don't you just love it??

Larry,
I had an airedale terrier too: 'Kilbey'. He is sorely missed. Never howled and only barked once. My boxer 'Lily' howls when I play harmonica though.

Rics and airedales = rarefied taste!

Larry, that's a great story. I can relate to everything you said about the dog and singing old 60s stuff. Cody, my Westhighland Terrier, doesn't howl when I sing but will come into whatever room I am in and lay down next to me while I do my thing, amplified or not. He loves it. I have a CW 12-string, Gretsch 6120-RHH and a Gibson J160E and he definitely like the Ric the best and a little taste of Guinness every now and then too. Hey, he's my buddy!

Good points here. Larry and Noel this is a bit of a heartbreaker thread for me. This is Nigel (November 15, 1989 to November 28, 2000). A fantastic dog and great friend who listened to me play my Rickenbacker for hours which left some scratching their heads as to his taste in guitarists.

Years ago (when I had a back yard) I had two miniature Schnauzers - "Zak" and "Zelda" - great dogs!

Nigel was a handsome Airedale! Maybe Airedales have a "thing" for Ricks?

The two of us can testify for sure. He died on my birthday, by the way.
Liza (my Airedale who thinks she's Linda Rondstadt!)can tolerate all the volume my '68 Vibro Champ can dish out; she'll sleep while I play fairly loud. Rickenbackers and Airdales: great companions!

Nice dog Peter. It's tough losing a friend like that. I know, I have lost a few myself. It's like losing part of the family. I still have a special place in my heart for our Scottish Terrier, Patsy McCline. That's right, she was named after the great one herself. What a wonderful, loving dog she was.
