what you have there is a real ric 4000 bass ... it has been modded to have a neck pickup and a bad *** bridge ... it has been refinished also ... but the real question is why does it have no strings on it ... is there a neck problem???

The neck p/up looks like a factory rout to me. Ask lots of questions if you are interested....

I think Marc was looking for a project bass something like this...

From the look of the picture of the back,it looks like there is some kind of route that has been filled....maybe active circuitry was installed and it was a battery compartment?

Looks like a 4001s. I have my eye on it but, have the same concern Jeff has. What happens when you put strings on it?

I guess I'm really looking for a player that's beat up where I can change some parts and refinish to my liking.

I agree with Mark,…………. 4001s.

However, are not most of the 4001s, old, non sold 4000’s that the factory modified?????

I think in order to have strings on it, you'd need to have a bridge assembly on it. Image
