I just sit here and play by myself all day long (really all day long concidering its summer). Its freaking me out haha. Im getting sad thinking i may be tired of it. Its been my life sence i started. But... yeah. Anyone had the same thing happen.

Hey Jacob, please listen to me.
Find other musicians to play with(especially drummers and guitarists).
I'm willing to bet your boredom will become forgotten once you find the right people to jam with!
It may be hard to find them, but I'd say it would be worth your time. It's a lot easier to make music when there are other people to play with(more fun, too), and your playing WILL get better.
If you're bored, that just means there's time to look for them!

Yeah i plan on getting a Guitar for Xmas after i get my Ric (hopefully soon). Maybe a new bass well get me in the groove again. Plus that sound well be a nice change. I think its just been this summer. Iv spent the past month or longer doing nothing but playing for about 7 hours a day or so. And when your not really learning any songs or jamming on anything new that gets old pretty fast.

Getting a guitar brings up the issue of what one tho Image

Yeah, find some other musicians to jam with and you'll be more excited...but I realize that sometimes it takes a while for that to happen. But even if you have a string of short times ina few bands you'll find you learn more faster, and have A LOT more fun! Image

Jacob, keep your head up. Your too young to feel that way. Certainly in your age group there should be some aspiring musicians you could get together with? Put an add in your local paper for people to jam with, or talk to someone at your local music store. Maybe someone there can hook you up with someone. There always a shortage of good bass players. Everyone wants to play guitar, or drums.
Good luck, and don't give up my friend. Image

You know what I do? I turn on the radio and play along with the music, I'm up and down the dial all the time, it's a real good way to develop your ear and you also end up knowing a million songs and it's like playing with pro musicians all the time. I get bored sitting down playing a bass guitar by itself also, a bass is meant to be played in a band much more so than a guitar. I started doing this years ago and people are surprised at all the off the wall songs I know. Try the oldie stations, they'll help you learn how to tune better as every song is slightly high or low.

Yeah there are musicians my age but they all suck. They think the fact that they managed to learn green day is something good. I dont even play guitar and i could learn green day in a couple hours! But i think your right. Playing with some people should make it better.

Even if they suck, just playing with other people will at the least break up the monotony. And who knows, given a little time some might actually improve.

It's always an awkward time when you're young and trying to get a band going..."what do you know?"..."what do YOU know?"...and often beginners have difficulties playing through an entire song...

And to illustrate how sometimes it takes a while for a band situation to gel, consider this: I moved to Florida in early 1997, hooked up with a guy I used to play in a band with in NY. We played in that band for a year or so, had a few gigs, knew about 30 tunes, and eventually we split up. A few months later I got back with one of the other guitarists and the two of us forced ourselves to get 2 days a week of practice in, even though he worked until 9 PM at the time. Some Wednesday practices we had started at 10 PM...

Eventually we found a singer, and one of our old drummers joined back in, we had a little success, and it fell apart. But Joe and I continued to meet once a week, and just play. Heck, we had the gear, might as well light it up. Image

About 2 years later we hooked up with the singer we're with now, and a couple of months later our current drummer joined the mix. Now we're getting regular gigs, in debt up to our ears after buying a bunch of PA gear, and have about 60 tunes down.

But we would not have been at this point if we didn't keep trying. And most importantly, keep trying to keep it fun.

Keeping it fun is the main thing I think, I just left a decent situation because it was getting to be drudgery.

Hey, don't knock those other guys your age because they "suck." Everyone starts off somewhere. I have several friends I played with throughout high school. We all started off kinda rough, but kept up with it. I am a decent bass player, I am no Geddy Lee, or Chris Squire, but I can hold my own. Some of these guys I played with moved to Austin, got their stuff together, played some ****** gigs, got screwed by bar owners and others. Despite that, they kept it together, and are now touring and getting national attention. They are on the edge of something big happening. Point is, you can learn from anyone you play with. Don't limit yourself either. Play rock, play country, play jazz, play anything that comes your way. Don't put yourself in a box. Be versatile. I have been doing this since I was 12. I am 32 now. My outlook on all this is that I play for free. I get paid to move all the gear before and after the gig! Don't give up, keep an open mind, and have fun.
Never ask "how much worse could it possibly get?"

Yeah most of these kids dont really want to learn much tho. I mean i could teach them all kinds of stuff but no one is welling to take the time. I do have a singer atm and she plays guitar a little. I play as well as she does and iv never owned a guitar. We actually are getting somewhere tho. We almost have one orginal song wrote. Gotta finish up the chorus. And then im gonna record it on my Bass teachers gear. Hell play the guitar ill do bass and she can sing it. Drum machine well be playing i suppose. I dont really know any drumers. Its just kinda a bad deal cause most of the people i do know that play anything suck. It wouldnt be so bad if they would listen and try to learn.

I know i sound realy cocky and like i have a huge ego. Its not braging if your just telling the truth. I think.... who knows. But really i rather play with someone who cant play at all but wants to learn then someone who can play but doesnt wana work at getting better.... or knowing Theory and such.

Its not that im dising them. I dont say much to them about it. And i dont say much about how good i am or whatever. But all these kids want is to learn the hit song at the momment. Most of them dont know any scales, they dont know any song that isnt played on the radio 50 times a day. I mean its all just a attention act or something. Like they just want to be kool. Most of them bring their guitars to school so they can show off at lunch and before class and stuff. Its sad cause they are showing off tunes like greenday. But i mean if they are welling to practice and if they are welling to let me show them scales and try to help them. Then I respect them just for that. I know it doesnt come natural to everyone and some people have to work at it more then others. But the point is that you want to learn something.

That is exactly how it is for me. I would play with friends and they just plain sucked. I would start up YYZ or something and they'd yell at me to stop. Then they'd play Blink 182 or something.
"Mark Hoppus is better than Geddy Lee. Mark plays chords!" Man I wanted to kill them. Ged played chords all the time. He can play faster with his fingers than Mark can with a pick.

The hit song thing is BS. If it changes before they're finished learing it they know half a song. The funny thing though is some of the kids that cover Greenday are better musicians then the guys in Greenday. So funny. I was told by a couple people that I was probably the best bassist in my high school. That was nice to hear.
