I think I'm just a Rickenbacker guy
I ordered a decent '73 Precision Bass from Elderly Instruments yesterday since it had the thinner "A" neck. All was fine until I got home tonight. I pulled out my 50th Anniversary P-Bass and my friend's '57 Reissue P-Bass for a while and just wasn't into them. Then i got a few of my Ricks out and it just felt like I was home. I like the necks and the tones of my Ricks much more. I just think I'm set on Rickenbacker and may see if I can cancel the Elderly order if it hasn't shipped yet.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

Ron dont listn to Chris.... He's going to hell one day. Burning a bass. Horrible!
Iv played a couple P and J basses. Most of them from the 60s or 70s cause of my teacher. The new ones suck by the way. Well they dont compare. I like them. Are they a ric no? But you cant really compare the two. They are both really good basses and are two different worlds in sound.
But if you arent into them that much i wouldnt get another. Id keep the one i had tho. Never know when you may want that sound. I mean alot of people still play Fenders. So if your covering a P bass song you may want the bass. Personally the better i get the more i notice myself trying to get the exact sound of whatever im playing.

Hi, I'm Chris.
You see it all started so simple, but then I joined this uh, internet forum with all these other "Rick" guys. Man I see some guys with 13 basses there. So I only have one..........
But I think I need another one.......used.....for..you know....bad gigs?
That's okay, right? I mean, it's not thirteen, just two?!
.......Sh*t.

I need both Fenders and Rickenbackers. For me there is no alternative.
WHile my '75 4001 is very "elegant" and the '97 4003 has a nice wide, flat neck, I also like a very meaty neck to grab on to. Fenders fit the bill and also sound great thru my Ampeg stack.

I have 1 fender 4 deans and im really hoping a ric on the way. I only got 4 deans because i had a friend that workd at a local guitar shop. So i could get deals on stuff. They didnt sell to many great brands. No rics... how horrible. Fender and Dean was about the best they had. And the only Fenders they had was the newer P and J basses. Which i didnt like as much as i did the older ones. So i went with deans. I did manage to get the one of the newer fenders that i actually like. Aerodyne jazz bass. They play very nice I love mine.
I try to stay away from questioning which one of my basses i like the most.

My Rics get most of my playing time, but I still like my old Fenders ('72, '76, '78) and the '64 Gretsch, and I'm not troubled by guilty feelings. The way I see it, for clank it's a Ric w/rounds, for thump it's a Fender P w/flats (the Gretsch looks so good, I don't care what it sounds like).
As far as feel, I've been a die-hard Fender P fan for many years (I've had the '76 almost since '76...), but now I like the feel of the Ric necks more. And yes, after playing Ric for a while, an old B-width Fender neck does feel a bit like a tree trunk, doesn't it?
