...of course, it *could* also be the intonation! What I meant to say, but didn't, is that the tone sounds like a Hofner to me, so it's possible that the minor tuning issues could have been resolved somehow.

There ya go, folks. Another satisfied pop fan!

"I have a Hofner 500/2 reissue (the Club bass) which can sound a lot like each of those songs, especially MSH, but of course, that doesn't prove anything..."

Hey Ethan,

A question on the action on your Hofner; Can you get it comfortably low without the strings hitting the pickups? This is one of my major beefs. The staple pole pickups can't be lowered because they hit the top of the body.

John - Your playing IPO this year at the same venue we are - the Joint - only we play Aug. 7th. Small, small stage, hope you don't move a lot!!!www.shamustwins.com

I always thought She's so Heavy was the Hofner - having had an old one, those slides way up and down are so easy to do.

When I ordered the CD I was able to put in some shipping comments. I entered:

"Please wrap it carefully - it's got a long way to go!"

The response I received this morning was:

"Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.
A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing.
Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.
We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved Bon Voyage to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day.
Your picture is on our wall as 'Customer of the Year'. We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM"

The sender of the email was "CD Baby loves Howard".

Whaddya s'pose they're smokin' over there?? Image

Jerry - The Joint does have that small stage, and I have 4 other guys playing with me! We'll be kinda crammed!! I've played there before and the sounds always been good. I'll be in the middle of a class Aug. 7 up here in the bay area so I'll miss your show! Are you playing IPO SF?

If you are free Saturday july 23 at 2:00pm please come to the Joint!

John- I just read this morning that they've remodeled the Joint to twice it's size - That's a good thing (hopefully that included the stage). They also said Neil Young did a surprise show (1/2 hour of Down By The River) recently and Keef popped in and did a show. So it's got some good vibes. I'll definately catch your show, and buy your CD while I'm there. I get carsick, so no SF IPO ;)

Jerry - Looking forward to meeting you! I'll have to take a trip down to LA to catch one of your shows later this year! I'll be playing my modded (with a new pickguard by our very own Paul W) 4003.

Should be interesting to see if they moved the stage. I am a big guy. OK very big guy, and that rickety ladder that you had to climb up was scary! The stage was between 2 doors, so I don't think they could have expanded it where it was.

Chris,

Oh man, I pop the pickups all the time! I play with my fingers, and I've tried to find the best spot to play so I won't knock the pickups, but it still happens. When I was recording the bass track for the title song of our new EP, I got a great take - but I tapped the pickup with the string in one spot. We left it in anyway.

So, no, I haven't figured it out either!

Yep, I do need one of those!

Right now it's a toss up between getting a 660 or a 4003 next. I'm primarily a guitar player so the 660 is appealing. And I know you like yours, Paul.

But in the band, I play the bass, and the gang likes the sound of the Hofner. I could use a backup, though, and what a backup it would be! Pretty much my entire band loves Ricks, so I'm sure they'd change their mind if I brought one to practice.
