Celebrity Pre-Owned Ricks

Post by bassman_bob »

Pete, any thought to a special topic for guitars and basses once owned by celebrities but now owned by Reg Page members ? Betcha there's more than a few. I've seen a Maurice Gibb 4001; I have Jon Camp's Great White; doesn't somebody have a 4001 from Roger Glover ? Anyone have any interest in this as a topic ?

I read somewhere that Glover is in the process of restoring his old 4001...

It would be nice to find a few more instruments with some celebrated history. I have a tape with the Gibb bass on the Ed Sullivan show and a few other major shows from the 60's. It is kind of weird seeing it there and then being able to open the case and play it...

Of course, someone might have an instrument that was celebrity owned and they don't know it. If it wasn't for this forum I would probably have never made the Gibb connection with my bass. Actually, if I remember correctly I think I gave Rob the heads up on his bass when it came up on UK E Bay!

I was reading recently about Paul Griggs and his RM1993 that he bought in 1968 and sold a few years later that was the one that Pete Townsend owned. It's disappeared and he reckons the present owner has no clue of it's history...
Now there would be a find.....

I'm not sure what constitutes "celebrity", but as a fan of progressive rock I remember Great White; this may be something like "Lesser White", but Dave Meros of Spock's Beard is my favorite American bassist and he played this on the Beard's first five CDs:

I really like the Gibb bass, it's one of my favorites.
