Let It Be footage of Paul playing Ric

Post by byu »

The thread here titled George's "This is Love" Video has a link to fastfocus.tv and a "Get Back" video. First footage I've seen of Paul playing his Ric at the sessions. About 2:16 in.

Holy ****! I thought that Paul stripped off the Fireglo/MMT paint job off his bass sometime in 1968. Guess not! Great find Bill!

What a find! Great shot, and one could put a real cog in the wheel.

The "Get Back" video appears to be made up of several different takes -- probably on different days by the fact that they're wearing different clothes -- synced at times to the soundtrack. There's at least one place where Paul is strumming his Hofner like a guitar rather than playing the bass line. Cool nonetheless! Interesting that Paul chose to use the Hofner on the roof even though the 4001 clearly was handy.

It's possible he only stripped the front at first. There are shots of the bass during the White Album sessions where it's stripped but you never see the back. It may be possible to spot other Ric shots based on what John & George are wearing in the above shot. Appears to be what they're wearing at the opening of the video - and also the most sync'd to the lips vocals in the video. Hmmmmm.

I think I'll have to watch Let It Be again to see if I can't see more of it...

Speaking of clothes, check out the closeup of George's "booties" in the Get Back video.

"There are shots of the bass during the White Album sessions where it's stripped"

Bill, Do you know where I could see these at?
Other than the picture above, which I've seen before, I haven't seen any "Beatles era" shots of the Rick after Hey Bull Dog / Lady Madonna. It still is painted in these.

There are shots of it leaning up against a chair or on the floor taken from the control room at Abbey Road. They're either in The Beatles Recording Sessions or Beatles Gear books. I forget which & I'm at work so I can't check.

The B&W photo above dates from(I think) Jan.-Feb. 1968...

The LIB photo in the 1st post is really cool.

There's also a shot that shows George's "Rocky" Strat leaning against a wall in the studio. Additional LIB footage would be very interesting to see.
