Dot question ( WARNING anorac alert)

Post by bob_atherton »

On my ’78 Burg the knobs all have a small white dot on them. On my ’80 Azureglo it has 3 knobs with slightly larger white dots and 1 with the smaller dot.

Did the size of white dot change around these years?

At this moment I am indeed wearing my Ric anorak……..

Bob: At the risk of throwing you into panic mode, I have seen another variation in knob markings. Some of my (11) Ricks have knobs with short straight white lines rather than white dots. Since I do not know the full histories on some of these guitars, I do not know if the knobs are original, replacement or simply rare transitional types. Hope that doesn't keep you up tonight...

I guess my query was a tad tongue in cheek, but a true one nevertheless. I will put the anorak away now. Probably it will reappear on a rainy day in autumn..

The vintage style knobs on my v63 has small white lines which are great to see on stage. The aftermarket ones I got for my 4003 are the same.

Jim, very nice bass. The white dot question was actually a serious one, albeit of the anorac variety.

I honestly wondered if there was a change in the knob type at the end of the 70's.

Bob,
I never thought for a second you were anything but serious. I've seen a similar style knob, but with a white dot, and not the stripe.

I've got the original knobs that came off my 72, I'll take a look at them and let you know.

If anyone is handing out Ric Anoracs, I'll take a Fireglo, with a hood !!!
