December Jeff, just snuck in there. I think your old September 4001 was one of the very last with the horseshoes. Greg Shadoan had a Sept 68 too at one point and that had a hi-gain too if I remember correctly.

For $4k I'd pass on a 4005. Maybe I'd change my mind if it was a reality and the production was low enough to secure the value. I think a 4001v68 is far more likely and for that I'd pony up some $$$$.$$ !

I am in for the v68. Imagine it with the new truss rods but with the old slim neck....MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm! Crushed pearl inlays all the way across, please. I highly doubt it would ever happen, though.

I'm in for a reissue 4005! For that kind of money I'd rather have a brand new bass!

What about a solid body 4005? One of the re-accuring comments i have faced over the years is that my 4005 didn't have enough bottom end. I rectified this (to an extent) by putting it through a Sans Amp pedal. And i know your amp is gonna be a big factor too. Personally i love the sound of my bass and the fact it is a semi is what it's all about, but some people can't get away with it. It's a hot potato! Catch!

The reason your 4005 does not have as much bottom end is the F hole. The solution is to sell it cheap to one of us and buy one with the slash hole! Image

Seriously, mine has plenty of bottom end so the problem lies elsewhere.

Just an observation. A solid body bass will have more bottom end than a semi. Fact.

With the crazy prices that vintage 4005's have been fetching recently, a V series 4005 with a street price around $2500-$3500 could be very popular. I would prefer a new solid reissue over a vintage 4005 anyways. I don't think John Hall has said no to the idea (or to a reissue sixties 4001), but I think their challenge is where these new models would fit into RIC's current production.
