Who would order a 4005?

£ points to make:
1. I reckon every guitar shop in the world could sell at least 1!
2. Rickenbacker have a very strong brand with the bass shape they use now. Will a new shape confuse and therefore weaken their branding?
3. MOST IMPORTANT. If these basses become widely available won't the magic be lost? Maybe they should remain basses that only those who know, know...

In all probability it's very hypothetical as JH as said before. Possibly, at some time the factory could establish a price for a limited run of basses secured with a healthy deposit and then go ahead after all other production needs.
The tooling for the 4005 would surely be different and possibly more time consuming.

I wouldn't worry about the magic being lost either. The 60's instruments still have a mojo that will never fade. Players and collectors alike will always want an original and that's not going to change. Have 20 years of V and C series re-issues made a difference to original values? No, not at all...

I'd be in line to buy one. I had a chance to buy one quite a number of years ago for $750.00 (fireglo). Therefore ,I'd be easy to spot in line as I'd be the guy hopping on one foot while the other was kicking myself in the #ss.

Wow..you miss the forum for ONE day and a 4005 thread pops up while your gone!!

I most certainly would purchase a re-issue 4005!

...but I'd rather have a 4001v68 w/horsey.....with the new-improved 4003 truss rod system and SLIM neck...checked binding, fwmop inlays, toaster, etc...

I think JH has already stated that the issue here is they don't have the CAPACITY to take on any more new stuff.....they are maxed out filling orders NOW!

I hope there are plans for a 75th anniversary bass, though... V68! V68! V68!

I would love to buy a new 4005!

I would also be interested in any other variety of semi-hollow bass from Rickenbacker, i.e. it doesn't have to be a 4005, specifically. A brand new semi-hollow bass model would be exciting, too.

If they made 4005's again, I'd probably get one in Fireglo, if the price was $2000 or under. I'd have to save a bit, but it'd be worth it.

The only thing though that I'm really really hoping for is that they bring back the "S" option. One of my dream basses is a fresh-from-the-factory Mapleglo 4003S.
