Return of the Shaftsbury copy on Ebay

Yeh He did'nt like being put right about the way he advertised either. He's developed an attitude in his auction posting. I looked at the other stuff that he sells and he looks like he runs a second hand store or something like that. Maybe even a pawn shop. That would explain why he got so grumpy about having is auction removed the first time. That's a business where you meet all types over the counter. Some not too pleasant.

Well Howard,
I am curious to see if he will get this one removed from under him as well, but the seller seems to have survived two days unscathed.
There were two bidders as well when I last checked. So he's generating some interest. I am keeping an eye on it to see what happens.

Howard It did cross my mind to buy it and get Paul to paint a Union Jack on it. I need a piece of Mod art for my guitar room. Sort of a retro look.
What do you think of that idea? Nothing wrong with tele's. I have a whole bunch of Strats. I also have a very nice Squire that has a Union Jack Pickguard and back plate. Nicely modded out but its a player. Too good to hang on the wall. I'll send you a pic if you want to see it.

Kent it depends. I could write a book on this subject but I'll try to be brief.
Prior to the introduction of the "full body Squires" it would seem that they are made up of reject Strat necks and other parts that likely come from overseas. Many Squires are in fact made overseas.
I like the older style Squire body because it is light. Especially useful for gigging. This one has a nice body and very good maple neck. I dressed and polished the frets. The stock HSS pickups were actually very hot so I did not have to replace them. The stock tuners were also fender Standard machine heads not pressed metal so I did not have to replace them.
All in all the guitar with my mods cost just over $125.00. It is intonated perfectly. The action is low and smooth. In short I would take it to any venue and not be shy of using it most of the night. Thats the long answer.
The short answer is "caveat emptor" Let the buyer beware. You need to know what you are looking for. As I say I have two that are my work horses.
The second Squire I call my Frankenstrat. It is old and beat up and looks like it has lived its entire existence in smoky blues bars. It has a very aged look. It is not entirely a stock Squire though. It has a Fender lace pickup and two Fender Strat pickups.
I would never consider selling either one. They are that good. I leave my Strats at home most of the time. But there is nothing like a Rickenbacker!!!!! I love my 350. I practically sleep with it.
I trust that I did not put you to sleep. But you asked.

Yep That's probably a good plan. You do have to look good too. That's all part of the game.

Brian: I would think a Burns Bison with a Union Jack would be more appropriate but hey, it's a free world (I think)!
I have a Squier Affinity Strat which I bought a while ago when I got back to playing and it's really not a bad guitar. The tremolo is s**t but I don't use them much anyway. Stays in tune reasonably well and really sounds like the genuine article - you cant impersonate Dave Gilmour on anything other than a Strat (well, maybe a Duo Jet). I replaced the 9 lights with 10s and it's a smooth player.
They do vary a hell of a lot in quality, so if you were to buy one, you'd probably have to play twenty before you found a good 'un!
I sleep with my 330 FG, Brian. It's starting to complain about me taking up too much of the bed and my flatulent nature. Sheesh...... women!!

Geez Howard a Burns Bison,
In '64 my rhythm guitarist in England had one of those. A brand spanking new one in fact bought on hire purchase. He was a clumsy bugger. (can I say that) He leaned it up against his Bird amp and got caught up in the cord on his way off stage. If he had'nt of jumped it would not have followed him. But follow him it did. The result was a decapitated Bison.
Lovely guitar but too much plastic and twiddly knobs for a Union Jack re-finish.
Yeh on the 330 FG my 360/12JG WB is getting jealous. After all I have to admit that she is the new love of my life. How do you deal with all these emotions? LOL

The Bison was a bit too fiddly for my taste--too much pickguard and not enough body showing. And--Greenburst shaded to black? Possibly the worst color ever done on a guitar. The Japanese did a lot of those in the '60s, too.

I remember thinking at the time that I did know that there was a manufacturer that could even make a decent guitar in England. You are right Paul, the colour was hideous.
I was playing a Hofner Gold Top similar to a Les Paul at the time. The control plate was like the one on Maccas bass. Too funny.
