2 Disc Preflyte Sessions

Post by grsnovi »

Anybody picked up this set of discs yet? The Jim Dickson tapes prior to Terry Melcher getting them.

OK, I'll talk to myself on this... ;-)

I had purchased the "PreFlyte" recording years ago and assumed this two disk set has that plus. I'm not sure that it is (I no longer have the earlier PreFlyte and my memory isn't that good, but the original PreFlyte was relatively short as I recall).

So far, this set has quite a number of recordings from the "pre-flyte" era. Early takes, alternative arrangements, etc...

Last night I heard an alternative take of Tambourine Man that had a military-style of drumming behind it (much of the early drumming is pretty lame and its clear why they went with studio drumming on the released tracks).

I'm also hearing some very cool Hillman bass-lines on some of these tracks.

This two disk set is not at all like the 4 disk Springfield set which is mostly acoustic demo's done by Young (some Stills, a few Furay).
