Here are a couple of pics showing how the Ric gene is still going strong in my family. The first pic is of my dad at a family get-together last weekend. The second is of me at a gig earlier this year. The last one I took about 10 minutes ago. I was just messing around with my 4001 and got up to get a drink in the kitchen. When I got back my son had pulled out my mic stand and gotten my mic and cable out of my bag. He set himself up for an all-nighter! By the way, he made his own connections on the mic...plugged into a guitar amp. I hope you guys get a kick out of this too! Anyone else got a family tradition like this?
Yeah. It's a Mexican Fender Jazz 5-string. I picked it up in San Angelo, Texas on my way home from my best friend's wedding in Lubbock. My wife hates going anywhere near pawn shops because that happens...I got it for about $200. It plays pretty well. It was almost new. I actually got the Ric in a pawn shop too. It's a '79 4001. I got it for $180 with original case, including tax! Here's a better pic of me with the 5-string at another gig.
Whose quote? Mine? Hell, I tell myself that at least once everday! And always remember, a great philosopher once said: "It is always better to be ****** off than ****** on."
Anyway, here's another pic of my kid.
In the first you can see that with him I can literally say he's been playing since he was in diapers and in the second you can tell the boy's gonna be tight. He knows how to watch for a cue! That last one was during a sound check at a local bar a few weeks ago,
Is the low B floppy on that thing? Heard Fender 5'ers are not the best. I love the color though.
Not big on the rosewood fretboard Fender's... sadly all the expensive ones have the maple board and I'm not spending $1,000 on a Fender. The Geddy Lee Fender is cheaper but I guess it still sucks. I'd rather spend that $1,00 on another Rick.

Nah. I am happy with it. It's a good sounding bass. Not as good as a high end Fender, but decent. No way near as good as my Ric, but it isn't in the same category, in my opinion. Remember, I paid $200 for it. It could use a little more punch, but I may just upgrade the pickups. It is a really nice color. That's what first caught my eye. I am going to put a white pearloid pickguard on it. With that color, that pickguard would dress this instrument up nicely.
