Visit to Ed Roman's

Post by gareth »

I was out in LV last Monday for a day and managed to get stop by Ed Romans's place for a visit. I figured that I'd finally go and see this huge collection of instruments. I have to say on first impression that there really is a lot of very nice guitars there, and he does have a lot of very unusual basses there. There's also a lot of "famous" guitars there on display from various players, such as Van Halen and Kiss.

He didn't have a huge selection of Rickenbackers, but those that he did have were nice. He had a really nice blueburst 4003 with pearl pickguard and a new Chris Squire model. The CS was priced at $5500, so if you're that desperate for one, there you go.

For the guitar guys, he also had a Roger McGuinn there. I didn't even think to ask what he wanted for that.

I did get a few music books and a new set of Rick tuners for the 4001 though, so he did get to weasel some cash out of me.

On the whole, I'd definately take it in on a vist. There just to much eye candy there to pass up.

Cool! Jim Glen and I along with the wifes will be there over Thanksgiving Day holiday for the Macca concert. We have already discussed a visit.
I am looking forward to it.

I'm going there for 4 days in January, and Ed's place is on my list of places to visit. I just have to see this place to believe it.

Me? Nooo....I'm just going out there to check out the sights, my girl has a conference she has to go to and I will have my days free. Little does she know that Vegas is a bad place for a musician with a paid-off Gold Card.

You know, there are those (on other boards) who make a living out of trashing Ed Romans. I, however, had an outstanding experience a few years back at Ed's.

I was looking for a new 4003 in Midnight Blue. The local stores said that they could order one and would expect delivery anywhere from 3-8 months. Since we were planning a trip to Vegas, I took a chance and called Eds. His salesman said don't worry, they'd fix me up.

We arrived in Vegas, checked in at the Mirage, gambled a little, ate a little, drank a little, etc etc and then called his place. The salesman came to the hotel, picked my Wife and me up and drove us over to the store. I checked out his Rics, (fell in love) and paid for it. He said it would be shipped out within the week and would meet me at home. I arrived home on Monday and the bass arrived in excellent condition on Tuesday.

I don't know Ed personally, but I know he catches a lot of grief for his business practices. I can only go on how I was treated and I would rate the service as an A+ so you can take that with however many grains of salt you wish.

I'm gonna be there in a couple of weeks for my guitar players wedding. I think a pilgrimage is in order.

I WON'T take my credit card inside...I promise.

No really, I mean it.

Sean.

Nope, he didn't have any LK's in stock. The last few they had sold for over $8K and if they get any more in, they expect them to go for even more. The only limited edition that they had there was the CS for $5500

I was out there a couple of weeks ago. At the front door, there is a large sign posted to turn off all cell phones before entering. Anyone know why?

Probably because if you work retail and hear the phone ringing all day, you don't need to hear anymore of that **** than necessary. Can you tell I work retail?
