Ric humbucker or toaster in 360/12?

I have just spent several days pouring through the archives here. I have a new respect for rickenbackers. I have been playing them for many years, but I was always trying to make them soun different that what they were designed to do. until a few days ago, I was considering putting a full size humbucker in my new ric 360/12.
NOT ANY MORE. You guys have totally converted me. I plan now on replacing my standard high gain neck PU with a scatterwound toaster. but I am still not sure what to do with the bridge. What would a ric humbucker sound like in the bridge position of a 12 string? has anyone tried? I like to play with some overdive occasionally and I was thinking the humbucker would best suit me for a bridge PU(for overdrive). How do the toasters handle distortion? Also, can the humbuckers have a switch(or push/pull pot) wired so that you can ground one coil and get a more traditional ric SC sound.

The closest pickup that I have found in tone to a Rick humbucker is the Gibson les Paul Deluxe pickup .It is not as midrangey as the 'full' sized Humbucking pickup , but it is not the crisp sound of a single coil .

It does not have (in the USA) a problem with 60 cycle hum (in the UK -50 Cycle hum ).

Speaking as someone who's got the scatterwounds in a 360/12, I think you'll really be pleased with what you can do with them. There's a lot more of options in those pickups than just playing McGuinn or Beatles stuff, believe me.

Howdy, Josh: just a note to let you know that RIC has a great humbucker, used mainly on the 650 version guitar. It's a high output, great crunch, and singing sustain pickup. You can order them thru Mike at the musicconnection.com. You can also order them thru pickofthericks.com. The pickup comes in chrome or gold(toaster type top). Hope this helps...I've used one on my 330/12, and it was the BOMB!!! AL A.

Hey Al, did you put it in the bridge posistion? Does it sound decent with distortion?

Josh; Yes, the bridge position was my desire for that RIC humbucker..and the tonal range between both Toasters is FENOMINAL!!! You have the sweet balance of tone and warmth with Crystal clear highs at the neck, and the punchy, growling, blistering mids and lows at the bridge...without any loss of smooth and chimming highs! There's no problem with the routing aspect when you use the Ric pickups, they fit perfectly...and I LOVE the RIC pickups!!! Just a note: Seymour Duncan makes an aftermarket Ric Bass pu, but he still hasn't hit the mark for Ric Guitar pu's..with the tone and clarity that RIC has. Good luck, and God bless the USA!!! AL A.

PS: You can still keep the H/g pu in the bridge position, if you didn't want to put out the extra cash. RIC's H/G pu is very similar to a Gibson P-90, and the little or no noise that it emits is worth dealing with when considering the H/g tone. Just another thought. Later, Rocket-Tone!!! AL A.
