Help! I just put on chromes and the A buzzes!

Someone said before that maybe the Chromes are lower tension than the DRs and that's why the A was buzzing. I know that the buzz problem has been solved, but I just want to say: Chromes are some of the highest tension strings I know. I'm playing DR Hi-Beams right now and they are MUCH looser than Chromes.

So now we know for sure that that wasn't it! Glad to (not) be of service!

I think he only had one on when it was buzzing, I'm sure when he put the whole set on it must have pulled the neck out a little, I'd be surprised if he didn't have to straighten the neck out a little now. I only used them once but I thought they were on the heavier side from memory.

Bob, I remember those Ampegs. One came through Columbus around '87 (I think) on tour and the guitar store it was coming to had an ad looking for recruits to help carry it in the store. They were offering $20 for the task. I remember thinking $20 was not worth a lifetime of back problems.

haha! I would have said yeah let me play it for an hour. How many guys carried it?
I knew a guy who used the equivalent in little clubs around here, he used 2 heads and 4 cabs with a Ric 4001S. The soundman had the longest snake I had ever seen. He would set up the sound board in the farthest corner he could find. This was during the mid 70's.

The G on my 4003 is buzzing right now, but I won't do anything until I put new strings on her. I like the chromes on my 4000, so that's what I'm getting for the JG - then I'll tweak it.

I remember a guy I used to play with in the late 70's had a Ampeg guitar combo amp. That was the heaviest small amp I had ever seen to that point. It took two people to lift that thing. I think it was made of iron.

Charly: Glad you got the buzz out. Half rounds are OK -- try D'Addarios or Ken Smith ground wound. I'm still partial to rounds, even if I have to roll off treble. The Lakland nickel rounds I use are apparently not available from GHS, but I like them a lot.

Duh! or, Doh! (depending on your age) Last night, I was tuned an octave low! Now wonder I was flappin, and buzzin, and rattlin all over the place. Sheesh!

got to church today and wow! I got my sound back!
The Ba210SP is set to flat, with SVT as the effect. Flats and my 87 4003 and Voila!

Can you explain something to me? Why, with the lack of overtones and brightness, the flats seem to punch through much better? The thought with the more modern sound is that it punches through better, but it doesn't really seem so live. I had much more definition on the bottom without having to worry about all the overtones on the D and G! My sound now qualifies at least as SWEET!
