Well done Dave even I don't recall this, but it was called Every Day's a Holiday in UK. Main stars were Mike Sarne who had a big number one in UK with a sort of novelty record called Come Outside in 62, then had a couple of other hits, nothing heard of him for years. However the other actor John Leyton was a different propostion essentially a C grade actor and I don't wish to be disparaging in that way just a statement of fact, but before the multi channel age of TV in UK, in early sities there were only 2 TV Channels in UK for most of the sixties.

In early 61 Leyton was given a role in a Popular TV series of the time, to portray a singer Johhny St Claire or something like that and performed a song which officallly had not been recorded, only for the TV show, after it aired record shops were inundated with people wanting to buy it, so it was released and Leyton had a new career, he fitted the bill too, being a very good looking guy. He chalked up 9 top 50 hits before Merseybeat put an end to his recording careeer, still perfoms though today. I'll post his number one shortly for those interested produced by Joe Meek who produced the first record by a UK band to have a number one in the states, anyone care to tell me what that was.

Here is Johhny Remember Me by John Leyton, produced by Joe Meek, number 1 in UK in 61 remember that fact as Meek was in my view the equivalent of Spector some called him a genius but like a lot of people labeled with that tag, a flawed one perhaps he had his demons and eventually took his own life, but he made some damm good "pop" records.

Roy, your namesake actually scored Zabriskie Point, as I recall. Male star was Mark Frechette, later convicted of bank robbery in Boston. He was a member of Mel Lyman's infamous "Family" (sort of a Roxbury Manson). Also members were Jeff Muldaur and Jim Kweskin of Jug Band fame. I believe Maria Muldaur split from Jeff over the issue of the "Family" membership. Frechette assisted in the robbery to get money to buy weapons, as I recall.

Oh, the song was "So Young". I have it on an incredible Orbison anthology multi disc album.

Well done Paul you are correct except for fact I am certain he did not score the movie music it was by Jerry Garcia and Pink Floyd. Unless I misunderstand your definiton of scored which is quite possible.

Unaware of other facts, interestingly one track Dark Star became the title of a Roy Orbison Biography.

I did not know that Paul McCartney wrote the music for The Family Way (1966) starting Hayley Mills, Hywell Bennett and John Mills. Has anyone heard the score? I can't imagine when he would have had the time to do this in 1966.

Typically British movie set in the North of England.
Main theme was called Love In The Open Air and was issued as a single but despite McCartney's name being on cover failed to sell. Funny you should mention this Peter, about 3 weeks ago I met up with a couple of old school friends, one of whom I had not seen in 41 years, over a drink we were reminiscing and above us on the wall was a poster believe or not of The Family Way movie.

I'll check to see if I have that title somewhere.

Talking of McCartney there is a great track recorded for the movie Twice In Lifetime which starred Gene Hackman in 1985, the track only saw the light of day as a bonus number years later on a re-issue on CD of Pipes of Peace album

Roy: Do you know the date of The Family Way release?

I say that because the Peter and Gordon release Woman under McCartney's pseudonym of Bernard Webb may have been related to the poor showing of The Open Air.

Woman hit the charts in mid March in the US, I believe, but was it released earlier in the UK?

Roy, I have read the Orbison "Dark Star" biography, and it's an excellent job as rock bios go. I highly recommend it.

Anyone who regards Orbison's music as haunting and even a bit dark (and who doesn't?) would, after reading this book, understand the triumphs and tragedies of his life and how he put himself into his music. (He lost two children in a house fire, and a wife in a motorcycle accident, among other things.)

You're right about the "scored" point. Roy contributed but did not score.

She's merely Singing a Serious Song.
