Yes, I am thinking a Rickenbacker 12-string was used when tracking "Starship Trooper" from The Yes Album...

According to Steve, the first time he used a RIC 12 string was on Awaken. The guitar pictured above is the one used, but it has since been stolen from him!

I believe Steve even used Rick basses on some of his solo albums.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Steve used his FG '74 4001 S/N NJ6074 on most of "Beginnings", "Never Say No" on GTR, "While Rome's Burning" and the title track of Turbulence", and "Desire Comes First" from "The Grand Scheme Of Things".

Howe's fireglo 4001 interestingly has no mute, and is not routed for one...you can see the fireglo finish beneath the "teeth" on the tailpiece. Why can't a person order one this way nowadays?
That GTR track...I read an interview where he said he played it because the bass player "didn't like Rickenbackers". I wonder if this meant the bassist simply refused to do a Squire imitation, or if Howe just plain didn't want him on the track. The bassist was a hired gun, after all, you'd think he would have played the Rick if his bosses wanted it...but Howe is notorious for replacing possibly unpleasant facts with something more diplomatic in interviews.

It has no mute because he removed it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!! I almost died laughing from that . . .

"Pekka...not all of us: I've got a lark's tongue in my aspic..."

Thanks a lot. Now I really DID die laughing! Hehehehe . . .

As for Steve Howe, I only have five words: favorite guitarist of all time.

This applies no matter what guitar he's using, but especially so with that Gibson archtop . . .
