610, string question

Could anyone offer some advice on weather to string my 610 with 10-46 or 11-48, and weather the G string (no not that one)should be wound or plain as it seems to have more bite than the other strings.

Howerd if your there, sorry for not getting back to you as I have been away and I am still waiting for my 12 string R tail piece, as ther wheren't any on the last shipment.

Crikey, Geoff!! Have you actually got it on order from the dealer and paid a deposit? If not, I may be able to assist you still.

I've tried both of the 10-46 sets, Geoff. The now discontinued wound G-string set is great if you're only going to use the guitar for rhythm. If not, and you do a lot of bending, forget the wound G set - waste of time - go for standards!!

I haven't tried anything other that genuine RIC strings on any of my Ricks.

PS - good to hear from you again. How was the posting down south?

Howard, Down south was a bit cool for my liking.
Where do you get your RIC strings from so as I can order some.
The importers down south told me they wouldn't be able to get the tail piece till the next shipment, and they didn't know when that will be. I will fire off an email to Rickenbacker and see what they can do for me.
Thanks for the advice on the strings, I am interested in trying the RIC strings.

I get them from Eastgate Guitars. Matter of fact I'm dropping in there in 20 minutes or so to get some strings for my new MIA Tele and new(ish) Gibson SG.

If you give them a call and ask for Jason (not on a Wednesday) and tell him I asked you to call, he'll look after you. I'll give him the nod tonight. Their number is (03) 9888 6077. The standard strings usually go for $15 to $16.

AND.... I reckon they are great strings!!

Howard,

stuff is sure expensive in Oz. I buy my strings (for my non Rics) in bulk when I can (50-100 sets is best). They usually cost me less than $4.00 a set. I have had good success with a couple of sellers who show up periodically on e-bay. Their strings are consistent in diameter (I used my micrometer on the first two batches to check them) and the ball ends are well attached.

I would spend a small fortune on strings if they cost me $15-$16.

Yep! Now you know why I don't change strings all that often, Brian. I like to stay with RIC strings on my Ricks - they feel good and sound great! Except the 4003 - I'm going to put some Thomastik Infeld Jazz flatwounds on this weekend.

Mind you, $16 AUD is about $11 USD (still expensive, I hear you say!). You can buy D'Addarios in sets of 10 for about $7.95 per set or 50 for around $7.00 but I'm not a fan.

Quite frankly, as a non-pro lounge room picker, I don't mind paying big(?) dollars for strings - I'm used to it!!

Thanks for the string advice I will call them on Monday.
If possible I still need help with the tail piece.
I might start a new thread to see if any one in the states might be able to get one as RIC don't sell individual items out side America, only to their distributors.
