Wendy K Burton now eh, this text is by Roy T Clough

In actual fact SJ has released 4 solo CD's his first release was a collection of demo's and unreleased recordings and was released not too long after he joined The Searchers, it was called Days Gone By and to some degree is of more interest in Searchers terms than his 3 own studio recordings, mainly because this CD includes his versions of Young Girl and The Rose which became part of the Searchers stage act once he had joined, probably as a concession to featuring himself to some degree.

As a correction Michael, Steve Warmer should read Steve Wariner.

In a recent Q & A on Searchers official website the great man himself, Frank Allen, credited SJ with finding the new songs that have featured in the act over the years, In this Life, Every River etc but that was incorrect.

The three albums you mention do contain some good songs but to date none have featured in The Searchers stage act except Runaway, the old Del Shannon number.

What is sometimes overlooked is that while SJ was clearly not a part of the hit legacy that has enabled the band to have such longevity, he has been their sound vocally now for nearly 20 years very nearly catching Mike Pender who was their vocal sound for nearly 22 years albeit 2 of those years shared in my view with Chris Curtis, Tony Jackson was the original sound in my book though in recording terms only lasted 9 months.

Frank is cute... maybe he just doesn't remember?.. Anyway, does it really matter if it was Spencer, or somebody else in the band, or probably not even a band member - a manager or something? What really matters, is the result...
Huh... a couple more years, and he'll 'beat' Mike Pender... quickly how the time flies by...

...and i won't be asking. Anyway, "In this life" is a cute song. Like, moving. I dunno. Just a lovely tune with lovely lyrics. And Spencer does the song justice.
