In the summer, I'll give in to the call of Latrobe, Pennsylvania's Rolling Rock.
My other beer of choice seems to be a thing of the past now: Haystack Black (porter)

Here's an old favorite for you:

The leaders of the big beer companies meet for a drink. The president of Budweiser orders a Bud, the CEO of Miller gets a Miller, the head of Coors orders a Coors, and so on. Until it's Arthur Guinness's turn. He orders a soda.

"Why didn't you order a Guinness?" everyone asks.

Guinness replies, "if you guys aren't having beer, then neither will I."

Howard I got screeched in at a pub in St. Johns. After four or five glasses the cod could have been a shark for all I cared. Smoked cod? no that would not do. You have to follow the tradition to a tee.

Great people down there. I am sure that some of them are related to me somewhere along the line even though they called me a "mainlander". As the saying goes we all got along famously.

When you are on the east coast you should try to visit that part of Canada. Its great.

Incidentally, I also play bodhran and apply a bit of Guinness on the skin almost every gig to loosen it up. It has a great hue and an even better smell! Then when I screw up, I can say that the drum has been drinking, not me! Wouldn't recommend this on a Rickenbacker though. Who knows, maybe it'd be better than Paul's Zymol?

Any port in a storm, eh? Is that a wheat beer, John? I once tried EK Weissen (I think that's how its spelt) - very nice indeed!! Quite similar to our Redback.

I believe wheat beers are an acquired taste. The ones produced in the States aren't usually the real deal - they taste like a fancy lager, and don;t have that indefinable zing that a good wheat does.

Speaking of guitars, I recently went through a period of Hofner lust. A verithin sounded like an ideal guitar for me - a sort of hybrid between a gibby 335 and a (Rick) 330. So I went to try one out. The only example in stock within 500 miles was a serious, serious dog! I am pretty sure it was a lemon.

Yes, lemons (and sometimes limes) are standard fare with wheat beer here. The lime is more commonly jammed down the neck of a Corona. I'm not a huge fan of the lemon/beer combination.

If you do bump into a Redback, I hope it's the beer and not the spider. If it's the latter he may give you a shot and it could be the ol' pine box for you!!
