Best combo ever is a Ric and a j-bass with a p-pickup in the neck position and a j-pickup in the bridge position (kind of like the Aerodyne). You can do ANYTHING with that combo. And if one (or both) is a five-string . . .

I had a 68 Candy Apple Red P bass with a 66 jazz neck for years was originally a fretless which I ruined with Rotos, grrr!!. I had a P bass with a jazz pickup bridge and the jazz was really noisy I ended up just using the P pickup all the time.
I like a da Rics much better.

Well i really plan on owning everything i want. Bass wise. I mean.... if Im making a living by that... why shouldnt i? Plus ill be playing a variety of music. Punk, Rock, Metal, Jazz, Blues and such. I like alot of different sounds. Ric just happens to be one that sticks out to me. I want one of everything! Haha... But yeah... Could just be me. I dont see the point of owning 3 4003's or whatever when one well do the same thing as all the others (normally). Id pick the one that plays best and sell the rest for something else. But I dont know. Everyone has their own thing.

You're not alone in this thought. Glad to see that everyone has other brand basses too. A Ric should be admired, or enjoyed, not worshipped IMHO.
If it ain't broke, break it, then fix it.

I just recently acquired my first Rick - a 4003DG. Then I ordered a 4001C64S last week. I love Ricks! But I also have a '76 T-Bird, '03 P-Bass, an old '70s EB-0, (2) '87 Bass Collections (by SGC Nanyo...not the Chinese ones), a Schecter Custom 5 (awesome!), a Tacoma Thunderchief acoustic and a Hamer Slammer short scale. Each has a different sound and feel, and I use them all according to the situation, usually in the studio. But NOTHING ELSE sounds like the Rick.

Just my fiftieth-of-a-dollar.

I was going to talk about my other basses, but I keep thinking about Jared’s last riveting post. Image Image

By the way - how about 'Melon glo' for COY '06?!?

Scott, is the pic of that P bass true to the color? That's a really nice color, pretty P bass.
When pics are taken of my trans teal StingRay5, it usually comes out looking blue rather than teal.
