Just checked - mine doesn't say MODEL 4001 either.

I have a 72 with white trim and it does say model 4001. I bet because the demand was less for black trim they used the TRC's on more than one style.

I'm the guy who was desperately looking for one of these for my Burgandyglo w/black trim 4001 (well, as desperately as one can while sitting at the computer, at least :D ). If everyone here thinks this one has no issues, I believe I shall go for it. Doesn't hurt that it's in Canada too.

My white 1976 4001 Ric bass has a Black TRC that has "Made in U.S.A. Model 4001" on it. The lettering is raised white on a black background.

Lord knows they can't be that rare. I have one. LOL

Thanks Ilan. I'd seen your name in the list of bidders, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna be stepping on your toes. :-)

I just got home, so I haven't checked the auction today (I will shortly), but it was at about $60 U.S. early this morning. On one hand, I don't want to go overboard, but on the other, I guess I'm obsessively bound and determined that the bass has to be correct (if anyone recalls, mine's the one with the faked TRC). Kinda funny since it was perfectly fine for me for 25+ years. :-)

Yeah, you're probably right. I am the high bidder right now, but I'm sure it'll get interesting near the end. I know I should have a definite ceiling figure in mind that I won't go over, but truthfully I don't at this point. :-)

If you really want it just go for it and don't worry about the price. Ten years from now it won't even matter!

Jeffrey is right. Don't let this one go - it's the first time in 2 years that I've seen one like this on eBay.

Brian: the raised letter type are common and easy to get, in white or black. The original Plexi ones are rare, and the black Plexi are very rare.

Thanks guys. Well, it's over and it should be on the way soon @ $117.50 U.S. :-) Not that I would've been happy to spend more, but I was prepared to - Ilan's post above this one basically confirmed what I'd been thinking (I hadn't been looking for quite that long, but it's been awhile and this was the first one I'd seen anywhere). I actually have to go in to work @ 2AM (a few hours from now), so for me this entailed getting up in the middle of the night to babysit the auction. Just made my payment, now I gotta go back to sleep for a few hours. :-)

Congrats! That's a very good deal. I thought it would go much higher, expected a sniper at the end of the auction, but luckily for you, there wasn't. Now your Burg will be perfect.

Thanks again. I too was wary of a last minute sniper, and compound that with the fact my computer is kinda sluggish - I've had it crash while in the last minute of an auction, so I had my fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll be pleased when the TRC gets here.
