I've seen the original fairly close up! On George's only US solo tour, 1974's Dark "Hoarse" tour, I was seated front-row-dead-center. So close that when George strapped on "Rocky," the fellow next to me asked, without shouting, "Hey George, is that the guitar from Magical Mystery Tour?" George stepped to the mic and told the Chicago Stadium audience, "Yeah, I painted it meself."

A couple of days later, I got George's autograph at his hotel (hell, I was only a teenager) and had my one conversation with him:
Dave: Thank you.
George: You're welcome.
