How about effects ?

here's my signal chain...
rick 4001/warwick thumb-
boss mega distortion (the guitar distortions sound great!)-
Dunlop Crybaby-
Digitech Bass Synth wah-
Peavey Mark IV/SWR workingman rig with a JBL 115 or 112.
I only get to use the SWR for practice because it is borrowed. The Peavey is too big to fit in my car. the SWR is possibly the greatest amp i have ever heard, and the Peavey is sub-par. but hey i got it for $300 so I'm not complaining. I would like more effects and see a POD in the future but alas being young with no job it is really hard finding the bread to buy more guitar stuff.

I have started using a Boss Hi-Band Flanger!(different than their other flangers because it uses an unaffected signal, and blends it with a flanged signal that is one octave higher, resulting in a very clean top-end flange with a very clear and solid bottom). It;s also much rarer than Boss' other flangers
Very different than the Boss BF2, or BF3 flangers(more subtle than both, which is a good thing).
My only problem is that I'm using it a lot now(maybe because I like Billy Gould of Faith No More, and Simon Gallup of The Cure)

Somebody mentioned wah's in conjunction with the Vox tonelab. I have a tonelab SE, and the Wah sounds great - with a guitar. The transitions are smooth, but you can definitely highlight certain harmonics and get some fun spacey textures, especially with some dirt. Sounded great with a 12 string, actually. Anyways, it probably sounds good with a bass too.

My first effect for bass was a Maestro Fuzztone, like the one heard on the Stones "Satisfaction." Wasn't exactly a bass friendly fuzz. I really liked that Jack Bruce tone though. That was replaced by a Guild Foxy Lady fuzz, which is an EH BigMuff Pi, rebranded for Guild. That got stolen though. Then I got my Maestro Bass Brassmaster, which I loved, being a big Yes fan. That stopped working one day.. I think my keyboard player at the time scratched some traces off the circuit board! The best bass distortion I ever heard was from my Peavey "Bass" amp, the very first one they made. The first channel had this great distortion circuit. You could get that Tim Bogert sound from the Beck, Bogert & Appice album! Wish they would have a floor unit with that sound.
I've gone through a variety of compressors, flangers and chorus units.
I currently don't use any effects, except for the multi-band compressor in my Trace Elliot combo, but every now and then I drag out any one of the following, a MXR Limiter, an EH MicroSynth, a Tube Works BlueTube (for distortion), and an Ibanez bass chorus.
When I record my bass, I go direct, and lately use some VST plugs, such as the QuadraFuzz.
Would love to get another Maestro Bass Brassmaster. I have the schematic, so I plan on making one, when I get the time...
