New (to me) Rick 350

Post by dc67 »

I responded to an ad on craigslist, and last night picked up a ruby 350 that dates to 1988.

The add said it was a cherry colored 330. Just goes to show you never know what you will find.

Congratulations Don. I have always been taken by the ruby finish and the model 350. A great combination without a doubt. "Follow the yellow-brick road." Thanks for the link. I look forward to your comments as you become more familiar with this instrument.

I love it when a guitar comes with a story. This one was owned by Maura Kennedy of the Kennedys (http://www.kennedysmusic.com/). The woman I bought it from (who plays acoustic) still keeps in touch with her.

Here's a quick question to you experts. I only had the chance to play the guitar through an amp briefly last night before the kids went to bed, but I thought it sounded much different than my '86 330 which has the same style pickups.

Am I hearing things?

Donald: You are hearing the difference between the bodies, the necks and the extra middle pickup which is wired together with the neck pickup. The two instruments that you describe have very different sounds.

Congratulations on the guitar, Don. It's really beautiful. Years ago, Pete and Maura were briefly neighbors of ours, and we still see them play when they perform with our friends, The Nields.

Pete Kennedy is also a JangleBox endorser. I see that we're sending your JangleBox to you tomorrow. Let me know how it works out with your new 350!

That's one lovely looking 350, Don. I'm guessing it's a rarity in that colour. My 350 is your common or garden standard Jetglo but that ruby looks sweet!!

Congratulations. Image

Hey, Don, could we keep this craigslist.org thing secret? It's sometimes the equivalent of the Garage Sale of the Don't Wanna Know.

That is a lovely color and the guitar is in beautiful shape, too!

I thought the very same thing when I saw this great colour Paul.

The purchase of this guitar seems to be one of those weird situations where a bunch of seemingly unrelated stuff suddenly comes together.

Some weeks ago I ordered a 360/12 and began lurking on this site. While waiting (or dreaming?) about the 12 string, I remember reading some posts on another board from Don Butler and others praising the Janglebox.

While looking at that site I noticed Pete Kennedy listed as an endorser. I had to admit that I was not familiar with his work even thought the Kennedys were based in the Washington DC area for a while.

Some days later I see the posting for the guitar on craigslist where I had originally gone to sell a mattress (don't ask). After exchanging a few emails with the seller, she tells me of the Maura Kennedy connection.

Now I just have to go to a Kennedy's show the next time they are in town.

Seems like you getting this 350 was preordained. All the stars must have aligned.

Unless the Kennedys have an electric rig, they won't be using a JangleBox. Doesn't matter, of course... lol! It's always worth catching one of their shows.

Howard, there is no such thing as a common or garden standard Jetglo 350. I know I own one. She would be insulted if I told her what you said. LOL

Donald enjoy your 350. Mine has a Ric HB in the bridge position and she plays the blues like an LP but smoother. Just to illustrate her versatility she also handles vintage Beatles like nothing I have ever owned before. They are great little guitars.

I can say anything I like in front of the 350 or any of my others, for that matter. I keep a cork in the output jack so they can't hear!! Image

Two corks in the 4003, of course!

When you have no corks left on your hat Howard, you know that your collection is growing big!
