Just had to comment on that Bass. Just could not help myself. Was looking for some email addresses and I saw this thread. Funny how fast time goes by.
Anyway what a beauty for $7500.00 Yeah I'd be on the phone But for $19k Hey it will be there and for sale for at least a while I am thinking.
Wonder what 8 strings, a hollow body, and vintage toasters sounds like!
Bet it's heaven.

Hey Dane my favorite person!
My 8 string project I turned over to Hamer. They built me a Custom Blades 8 string, tone chambers, matching flame maple top & back, 34" scale w/custom inlays and in brilliant blue! A perfectly beautiful bass.
The 4003, I thought I would make a Potatohead out of, I decided to turn into a 5 string because I liked the other so much! So after talking with Mark P. I bought Conversion Varnish and Titianium White tint and refinished the entire bass, relocated the tuners on the headstock to the correct 5 string locations, used the other Bridge I bought from Jeff, and ended up with a great bookend pair of One Black & One White 5 string basses that sit on either side of that Azureglo 4080. THe JG 4003 conversion is still my workhourse! The sound on that one is just fantastic and the strings are spaced just the way I like them. The White 4003 has a High B for fun! Confuses the hell out of our guitarist! Interesting runs like this, We are working out a sort of Lead Duel that actually sounds like nothing I have ever heard.
Anyway If I get into trouble and have questions I know I still have a great site to come to for help. For now there are no more projects! I have only what time it takes for me to learn music!

By the way I see that $19k 8 string has a shark tooth neck on it? Wonder if there were string tension issues?
Someday I may still build an 8 similar to Chris's. I know I won't be buying one and there is no other way to own one. For now I own 12 basses & guitars (three rics) and I have my hands full with learning to play them. Enough is enough so they say.

Steve.....Hey......Been a while.... Yeah That Blades bass was the answer for me for 8 strings. Hamer does some fantastic custom work. The tone chambers give this a real cool sound and it is not very heavy. No need to make anyone drool, we all have our desires when it comes to guitars in here. And there is no shortage of nice guitars around. I'd have GAS concerning that Ric 8 string but that price is a real buzz kill ya know..........
I bought a New Carlo Robeli 12 string in red that was so cheap I just could not pass it up!($375 w/case) It is actually a better guitar that I thought it would be.... Funny little "Bat wing" inlays in the neck that crack me up every time I look at it. Neck is well made and holds it's shape well considering the tension. The pickups are Active or Passive and it sounds better than it should??? Actually a surprisingly good bass for the price. Not sure how well it would hold up if I was using it like use my Ric's. It sounds like it's own band when I tune it to the 5ths?? but three strings at a time is hard to get used to and is not practical for any songs I am actually playing yet?? Maybe later.
When I get five minutes and another camera I might try some photo's again. I think I will wait for the split covers from Jared before I send my final photo of these basses. He makes great looking pickup covers and now that I cut the bumpers down over the mute area I have a lot of room to play and the horseshoes will not be in my way.
Jeff would be proud of these 5 strings. and after the success of completely painting the white 4003 I think I am going to go back and plug and redrill the tuners on the JG I did a while back to get the tuners where they belong.
All I need is black coloring to add with the CV... I think I can just repaint the headstock and not the whole guitar then buff it to blend in the transition.
