Beatles Amps

Post by studiotwosession »

As anyone who cares to know already knows, the guitars the Beatles played have been studied, tracked down, and researched exhaustively. But does anyone know what happened to their amps? Did they give them all away or trade them all in?

I've asked this same question in various forums and never got any replies. Guess no one really knows.

My guess is that they retained a few of the many amps they've owned but many have probably been sold off or appropriated by associates. I'd love to know what became of those '68 Fender Twins and if they were blackline models and John's '65 Deluxe.

I recall a fairly recent Lennon video that opned with a shot a Ric and a Vox in a cottage and I wondered if it was really Johns stuff or just a rental.

The VOX was John's. The cottage was a rental.

1968 was the first year for the Silverface Fenders if that's what you meant, although I don't know if they changed on Jan 1. But I've seen photos of them with Silverfaced amps before.

Paul thanks for confirming that amp was John's. What was that video though? My memory is shot and can't remember where I've seen it or even what song it was a video for.

Bob- The first Silverface amps had a couple of thin black lines on the faceplate that sperated the sections and were template marks left by mistake. These only lasted a very short time and those amps that have them usually have the earlier BF components and circutry.

I was curious if the Beatles ended up getting those "blackline" faceplate amps. However, since those amps looked like they were dropped off brand new for the LIB filming they may have been later 68 models.

I know Sean still has one of his Dad's Fenders, one that has "Plastic Ono Band" stenciled on it and was used at the M.S.G concert. I think it was a Pro Reverb?

Jamie ,You may be thinking of a video off the legend dvd. Think it was a song off Double Fantasy.

Ah yes, it was "Starting Over"! Really need to visit my own collection more often lol! I see there's actually 2 Rics in the video and the Vox looks a bit scruffy. Any idea what model that Vox combo is?
