Which Rick/12 is most comfortable?

Post by octagon »

Specifically which is most comfortable to play when seated?I find my 330/6 is very comfortable so I'm sure a 330/6 or the 360s with that same body style(V,C,OS,WB) would be the same but how about the new style 360 and the 620 and 660?Do they balance well on your leg like a 330 or do you have to wear a strap while seated so that it doesn't slide off your leg?

My 660/12 is my lap guitar.

That having been said, I like the beefiness of the 381 when I'm sitting, too.

Everybody has his own thang, though.

My 360/12 is comfortable to play while sitting, but some with big fingers complain about the neck size (same as 330) and prefer the wide neck 660.

FWIW, I find my 330/6 the most comfortable when seated. The 660/12 is a bit more of a balancing act so I tend to stand up when playing it.

FWIW it helps if you have sticky legs, Aitch.

Howdy,

The 360 beats the 330 for comfort when seated. This is one of the reasons I chose my MG 360 recently over a less expensive, flamey 330 in FG!
The bound back edge causes the instrument to stick in the musician's lap, where the more rounded back edge of the 330 slips. FWIW, the 330 has the cooler body shape. YMMV Image

I'm thinking of getting a Ric twelve sometime. I already own a Ric 360/6. So I'd like something with three pickups and have it set up to run the mid and neck combined in the mid position. Just to make a different sound from 360/6. Also toastes on it instead of the high gains like on my 360. I like my highgains just fine for leads. But I think that the twelve should jangle more and that means toasters.
I kinda like the looks of a Jetglo 350 twelve or a 370 twelve in Fireglo. Do these sound the same or very different? If different in what ways are they different?

You'll want to make up your mind soon, because with those specs, you're in for a LONG wait!

Dan.... I'm thinking the exact same thing. I have two 360's and if I get a third I want it to be a bit different. I'm thinking of the 3 pickup design also but am wondering if a COMBO of hi-gains and toasters would be the best. This subject has been discussed before (By Paul W specifically)...... (HEY PAUL... what was it you did with the 3 pickup toaster/hi-gain combo again?).

Also, to make the 360 even more different, I want it to be the 21 fret Carl Wilson model (in Jetglo). Since Ric doesn't even make CW's anymore I'd have to mod an existing one. The last thing I will do is swap the white plastic for black.

If I get all this done by the time I die of old age I'll be happy.

J., I called up the link. But my puter is running a bit slow tonight and so and image of the guitar never appeared.
Kent, my reason for the toasters is to have a totally clean twelve sound. However different by having the three pickup model. But I do like my highgains much better on leads than toasters for rock leads.
It kinda depends what kinda sound and music you are gonna use the twelve for I suspose. I want and instrument with a beautiful backing rymthm sound for recordings.

Kent, see my post in the UP AT 4 AM thread. I am going to keep 3 pickups on the 320, but do plugs in the harness so I can try different combos. Original setup was gonna be like a SH 350.

It would be so cool to have a circuit board with several different volume/tone combos which would retain the trad 4 knob or 5 knob configuration, but have the knobs do different combinations of things. But I'm not a circuit designer.

Sounds like a lot of push pull knobs would be required but it could be done.

The 360/12CW is the ultimate in Rick 12 strings, imho. Wish I had one. If you have the means I would recommend tracking one of them down. However "...beautiful backing rhythm sound for receordings" to me means 350v63 all the way. Mine is a six string with Pyramid .10 flats and it has a gorgeous round and shimmery Beatley sound and that is so pleasing. I stick to my 360 with rounds for lead stuff. Wonder how the 350/12 sounds compared to the 660/12. I really love my solidbody 660/12 with the tight, clean sound and great sustain vis a vis "I Call Your Name." AAaaargh so many awesome Ricks, so few hands!!!
