Re the Roto strings discussion, I was a victim of them too; they took my 4001 and bowed the neck horribly. You're right, we just didn't know 35 years ago that Rick truss rods weren't the same as Fenders. Every "repair" guy I went to back then tried to adjust the neck with the rods and not set the neck first, then lock it with the rods. I sold my first 4001 at that time; I could cry when I think about it. I even remember writing to Rickenbacker Corp. and getting a nasty worded response to stop using round wounds and use only "our" flats. I was so soured by the experience, waited until 1988 to buy another one. Now I have 3 and want more !
"I wouldn't be quite prepared for that eventuality"
Simon, LOL!!!!! And I used to think I had it bad with my one 8 string or my 6 string Sei...
And Robert, yeah, my precious 72 was fine when I bought it; I took it for a setup once several years ago and lo and behold when it came back the rods had bent into the head. Of course it was only when I came on the Forum that I found out why...
