Routing in a 75 4001

Post by charlyg »

Anyone have a pix of the standard routing in the body? I think my neck cavity is too big, like they put that Gibson thing in it!

Circa 1975 Basses (mine included) are routed such that both the 1/2 inch spacing neck pickup and the 1 inch spacing neck pickup can fit, by all acounts I have seen.

What do you all think?

Charley, the neck cavity in my '75 4001 is large. I could put a pickguard on it that has 1/2" or 1" spacing from the neck.

The groove for the cable is AT the corner of my route, whereas that one in on the side. I think mine is wider. There is also an insert in the bridge route so that what is left is about the width of a jazz pickup. I will have to remove the block I assume to put on a standard bridge.

I need someone to show me the code to post a pix. I can't seem to get the frame back with the help section!

Charly is the picture in your computer? If so go to the bottom of the page and click on Upload Attachment, then click browse in the new small window to find the folder in your computer where the pic is. Then click upload. You have to be sure that the pic is no bigger than 500 pix x 500 pix and no bigger than 36kb or it will give you an error.
If your pictures are too big and you need to resize them, download Irfanview. Irfanview is a pretty cool photo editor that you can download for free. I'm certain many of our fellow Rickenbrothers use it.

Are you going to take the finish off the fingerboard, or did the previous owner do that already?

That routing doesn't look out of the ordinary for a transition era bass.....Many '75 owners here have the 1/2 inch spacing but mine has the 1 inch spacing- but there is room for either configuration
