4005 Restoration

I've just started to put a 4005 restoration feature on my site. Mark Arnquist is doing it. Check it out:

Fascinating stuff! I look forward to seeing the outcome of this 'major surgery'. 4005 basses are very hard to come by in my country (Portugal, Europe). I wish I could find one to add to my collection, which currently stands at twenty bass guitars, including five Rickenbackers. At one time I had ten Rick basses in my collection, mainly from the late 70's/early 80's.

Hi, John (Jwilli). Thanks for your interest. I have a 1978 Azureglo 4080, a 1970 21-fret Fireglo 4001, a 1974 Jetglo 4001, a 1976 white (originally Burgundy) 4001 and a 1992 lefty Mapleglo 4003. As I said, at one time my collection included ten Rick basses, i.e. the above-mentioned ones plus a 1977 Burgundy 4001, a 1980 Jetglo 4001, a 1981 Jetglo 4003, a 1980 Jetglow 4001 and a 1982 Fireglo 4001. In this country 4001's and 4003's do crop up quite often, unlike 4005's, 3001's and 4000's. Keep in touch.

There's a 4005MG in a shop here in Austin,Texas that has been modified, I hope someone buys it and returns it to "normal". I'm a lefty and it's a righty or I'd do it myself. I always wanted a 4005. Played a lefty once about 10 years ago, was told it was the only lefty 4005 ever made, but I was poor then and it had a $3000 tag.

The Horn Trader in Oklahoma City has a '67 4005 for sale, it's in the 3k range if anyone is interested.

John, should you need a new bridge pickup for your 4005, one with bags of power and matching both dimensionally and cosmetically the original bobbin of the bridge pickup in your bass, let me know. I'll be glad to build it for you. All I need to know is the bridge string spacing on your 4005 bass, plus the original coil resistance value. I guess this should be similar to that of the toaster pickup on my 1970 4001 bass, but I can't be sure as I've never come across a 4005 bass. Get in touch.
