Melissa: You have an amazing collection of Rickenbackers. Happy Birthday wishes from Canada.

Richard: Sometime when you get the chance and perhaps in a new thread, I would like to hear your appraisal of the tonality of the humbuckers you installed.

"I wonder just what Melissa's hubby is going to get when his birthday comes around."

You know, I'm wondering the same thing.... His birthday is less than a week away--it's pretty hard to outdo him in the gift-giving department; after all, he's the guy that gave me my first Ric as an anniversary present about 4 years ago, and has given me many more Rics for many other special occassions! Any ideas? He's not a musician, and he already has waaaay too many ancient coins, LOL!

Go for the Inspector Gadget routine Melissa. I am sure he must have picked up a digital camera by now, but what about a Blackberry or a compilation CD of his favourite group?

Actually, he's more into fishing and guns....but he already has every kind of fishing tackle and gadget known to man, and multiple rods and reels... And as far as guns go, I'd rather let him choose his own, 'cuz I'm clueless in that department! ....And he's not a music addict like I am; if I bought him a CD compilation I would most likely be the one listening to it.... Last year I bought him the "Feedback" album by Rush, but I'm usually the one who puts it in my CD drive...

Melissa......although it MIGHT seem impersonal to you, he may appreciate a nice gift certificate to Cabela's or Gander Mountain. Both are well known sporting good stores that I'm sure your hubby is familiar with.....

Kelly I'm English now living in Canada. Your comments that I have read all over this site have seemed, shall we say out of place. Perhaps take a read of some of the threads here and you'll see that comedy and good natured fun is a part of many comments posted.

You'll also see that there is immense respect shown for each other. If you temper your comments accordingly you will (a) feel right at home amongst friends and (b) not be censored.

Look foward to having you become an active participant in this great forum.

And BTW I am not the site police, a policy maker or any person of particular importance on this site. I am just someone who visits and participates often.

Brian: Thank you for your thoughtful comments. We are all policy makers here by virtue the manner in which we relate to others with each and ever post.

There are a lot of people here with a very keen and perhaps more aptly put a sharp sense of wit. You will enjoy this site. Your humour reminds me of Dave Allen's. A great Irish comedian who was both irreverent and excruciatingly funny at the same time.

BTW, thanks for being being a gentlemen and for being so understanding of my comments in my earlier post.

Sigh.... I just wish I could give him something half as good as any of the gifts he has given me over the years! He has this knack for finding the PERFECT gift, without fail. If he played guitar or bass I'd give him a Ric, LOL!

Oops Kelly's reply must have been deleted also.
So my last comment seems out of place.

Thanks Peter for making me feel better about what I felt I had to say, I feel it's really not my place to comment especially since I am a relative newcomer. But I was a bit concerned about some of the posts I had read. I don't want to see this forum go off in a direction that dilutes our enjoyment and friendship.

Brian, I saw Kelly's reply (I get the automated email responses, LOL...) I think he was just trying to be funny; that one doesn't take a whole lot of thought!

Actually, my 8-year old son just gave me a GREAT idea a few minutes ago, and I went over to Amazon and ordered the Matrix boxed DVD set for him.... My husband LOVES the Matrix movies.

By the way, thanks guys for all the well-wishes and gift-choosing help! This place is the greatest! Image Cheers to online Rickenfriends!

Melissa, he'll love the Matrix boxed set. Do you two have a surround sound-type of thingie with your TV? If not, then that's another gift idea.

I've got a smaller surround sound system in our bedroom (smallish bedroom, too), and the experience of watching the Matrix movies (and others, of course!) is immensely enhanced when the bass is rumbling and things and people are flying over your head!!!

The smaller ones cost a lot less than a new Rick or high-end carbon fiber rod, too!

Actually, our TV doesn't get used very much--mainly the kids use it to watch their movies....But my husband just upgraded his computer system last year, and he has a huge 19-inch monitor and an incredible Lucasfilm surround-sound speaker system that he got as a part of the package--Our home office is also a great home entertainment center.... I love listening to music on his system when he's not busy working--it sounds like a concert hall! The Matrix movies will be cool. I'm hoping we get all 6 Star Wars movies for Christmas (if they release them as a boxed set by then, LOL!)....
