Jeez Jeff you have enough basses? Great site.
I'm a guitar player but I play lead bass on my 4001 too!!! LOL.
Nice to see that I am not the only one in the world that plays bass with a pick. I thought I was odd man out in that department.

I am thinking of stringing one of my 5 string basses piccolo ... using string 1/2 the normal guage ... and tuning them an octave higher ... and then truely playing lead on bass ...
Also I only have 13 basses ... some of those have been sold or belong to someone else ...
picks are great ... and so are fingers ...

The bass player in my first (Beatles) band used a pressed felt pick about 1/4" thick and 2" long...
Ever see anything like that, Jeff?
He could nail every single Macca line, too, on his '66 Hofner.

My last bass player said that I play bass like most people over here drive...... hard and fast.
Thus my lead bass comment.
Now I have looked at your retrofits I wonder why Ric does not make 5 and 6 string basses? I would think that there is a market for them. Am I right or have they made them before and I don't know about it?
BTW (13 basses) you have a serious addiction going on there. It's probably time to see a therapist. LOL

Paul ... I have some felt picks ... but I prefer derlin ...
Brian ... Ric used to make the 4003s5 ... but they made the string spacing 2 1/16" at the bridge ... I change that to 2 1/4" on my 4003s5 basses and my 4-2-5 4003 conversions ... and Ric made the 4004CII5 for a while ... it has a wide neck and a string spaceing around 2 3/4" +/- ... but the pickups were too narrow to cover the strings ... the bottom line is Ric has never made very many 5 string basses ... but I am a 5 string player and I prefer Rickenbackers ... these are my favorite 2 basses these days ...
