Hey Paul, I'm glad I don't live next door to you. All that noise from your bedroom late at night! (lol)....oh and Happy Birthday Melissa!

Melissa, when I had a big house, my bedroom had a big Sansui component surround sound system, and a videodisc (remember them?) setup with a 36" TV, etc. Active sub, big speakers, 300W front and 140W rear, etc. This was 1984.

I sat my parents down during one of their annual visits, and put the Return of the Jedi videodisc on, volume cranked to theater levels, room dark.

When the Star Wars them came on (lotsa brass--remember?), my Mom fell out of her chair. Literally. I will never forget it. I guess she wasn't expecting it.

Now they're making these systems smaller, and packing them in a single box. My Panasonic system is very unobtrusive but still rattles the windows on occasion!

Our surround-sound speakers are quite small, but they sound HUGE. When the kids play their battleship computer game on the system with the volume cranked it sounds like a major war going on at our corner of the block, especially in the summer with the windows open!

Paul, that story sounds familiar! I did the same to my Dad only it was the movie "Alien". As the alien came out of John Hurt's belly, my Dad stood up quickly and left the room, HA HA. He was used to "old school" effects.

My husband loves the Alien movies, too, but they're a little too creepy and gross for me, LOL! I think he watches them when the kids and I are not home....

My bedroom speakers now (the Panasonic setup) are really small, too--I think 3" front and back, but with a powered subwoofer. I think the whole deal cost $200.00 at Costco on sale.

But, as Melissa says, the sound is very big. Plus the darned thing has a processor and EQ for all sorts of room effects. Sounds OK with CDs too.

But my living room stereo is a late '70s dream come true--classic Sansui top-of-the-line stuff that is finally affordable thanks to eBay!

My subs for my surround sound system came from my old band's PA system. Needless to say, a car crash or a spaceship zooming by will make you come out of your seat!!
