Saw TP and the HB's last night down in Chula Vista (San Diego).

Tom played his signature 12 string, 1997 and a vintage 425!

Mike played a 60's 330-12 and a Capri 450.

With Thurston, there was a total of 6 Vox Super Beatle amps on stage!!!!!!

Super show!!!!!!

Who was drumming for them? I heard Stan is no longer with TP.

Stan left the Heartbreakers in 1993 after the 'Hits' CD came out and their MCA contract was complete.

Stan lives in Nashville now and is a successful song writer.

Steve Ferrone has been Tom's drummer for the last decade.

Steve hails from the UK and has played with the Average White Band, Eric Clapton and George Harrison.

God, I don't. Ron Blair is a MUCH better bassist, he played all those cool lines on the early tunes. Glad he's back.

Stan WAS the Heartbreakers. I can't even conceive of seeing them with someone else. It'd be like the Beatles without Ringo.

That seems to have been the last straw between Tom and Stan. Stan seemed unreasonable to live outside of LA when the rest of the band was there and expect to get a call every time there was a session. And my interest waned after '83, when it seems to me they took their eyes off the ball. But through the glory years, even though I'm a guitar player, if I was at their shows, it seemed to me Stan was the one to watch. All drummers should be able to sing backing as well while playing that well. It was like he followed in the footsteps of Nigel Olsson.

Nigel Olsson!! What a great drummer. As a huge fan of the late, great Dee Murray, I have always loved Nigel's playing. Not a bad singer either.
When I saw TP&HB Stan sang "Psychotic Reaction".

Yeah, Nigel, Dee and Davey were great, not just players, but singers as well (check the making of the Yellow Brick Road DVD.) Elton sank like a stone when the first two were fired. Dee plays insanely great bass on the live version of Whatever Gets You Through the Night. Just outtasight. My favorite drummers and ones that sing, Ringo, Nigel, Levon Helm, and Stan.

I'm 100% with your drummer list, I'm a huge Band fan too, have you checked out the new boxed set? I love it, comes with a DVD. The GYBR DVD is 2 days away, ordered it last week. I was in junior high when I read in Circus(probably) that EJ fired Dee and Nigel, I cut out the article and hung it on my wall. I was always more into the band and the music than I was EJ himself.
